Sentai Filmworks Licenses "Hayate the Combat Butler: Can't Take My Eyes Off You"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Sentai Filmworks has announced the license of Hayate the Combat Butler: Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. Based on the popular title published serially in Shonen Sunday and with animation production by manglobe Inc. (Samurai Champloo), this third season of the Hayate forges a new path with an original anime story based on a series concept by original author Kenjirou Hata.

They describe the series

It was a tumultuous summer, but it's drawn to a close and things have returned to normal at Sanzenin Mansion -- when suddenly a phone call is received from the Nevada police! "Have your father's belongings been found?" a voice asks. "No. I have no interest in such things," replies Nagi, as nonchalant as ever. But then a mysterious girl arrives, claiming what could be either a shocking truth or utter nonsense!

Hayate the Combat Butler: Can’t Take My Eyes Off You will be available soon through select digital outlets with a home video release to follow.

Why Does The Flu Vaccine Suck This Year?

by Matt McCarthy on Regressing, shared by Annalee Newitz to io9

Why Does The Flu Vaccine Suck This Year?

Did you get your flu shot? I didn't really want to (I hate needles) but as an infectious disease physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, it would be exceedingly poor form if I opted out. My job requires it, and I recommend the vaccine to just about every patient, every day. The shot doesn't actually hurt, and if you look at the terrifying data—influenza kills between 3,000 and 50,000 Americans every year—it seems insane not to get immunized. Annual vaccination reduces your chance of dying from the virus by more than 40 percent! But on Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control announced that this year's vaccine kinda sucks. To be specific, it's less than 50 percent effective against the predominant strain of circulating virus. So what went wrong?

"Fire Emblem" Arrives on North American Wii U Virtual Console Today

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

The Fire Emblem series has been around since the Famicom days in Japan, but those of us in the west were first exposed to it via the 2003 Game Boy Advance game. Now that entry is officially available on the North American Wii U eShop, where it can be downloaded for $7.99.

Nintendo's official page and synopsis:

After centuries of peace, smoldering rivalries threaten to set the world aflame in a blaze of battle! The drums of war beat, noble houses plot treason, and allies becomes enemies. As Lycia stands poised for war, a shadowy figure manipulates empires for his own ends. Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector are brave warriors that are prepared to fight back the forces that would destroy their homeland. Help them gather other heroes to fight beside them, taking care that they do not fall in battle; otherwise they are lost forever. Plan your strategy and command the field of war as you train and learn each unit's strengths and weaknesses. Become a master tactician, and douse the embers of war before they burn the world to ash!

TYPE-MOON Outlines Comiket 87 "Fate" Plans and Posts 86's "Fate/Apocrypha material"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

TYPE-Moon has laid out the books that they're bringing to the end of December Comiket 87.

This includes novels Lord El-Mellio II Case Files by Mita Makoto and Sakamoto Mineji (grown-up Waver-kun solves the case!), Fire Girl 3 AL written by former Liar Soft screenwriter Meteo Hoshizora, and illustrated by BunBun, and Fate / Apocrypha volume 5 by Yuuichirou Higashide with illustrations by Ototsugu Kono as well as manga Fate / strange Fake by Shizuki Morii, based on the 2008 elaborate April Fool's joke from TYPE-MOON and writer Ryohgo Narita (Baccano, Durarara).

A Lord El-Melloi mini-site is up at http://www.typemoon.com/products/tmbooks/elmelloi/index.html

strange fake plans were announced back in July

The TYPE-MOON wiki describes the premise:

The plot centers around a Grail War faultily copied from the Third Holy Grail War in Fuyuki. After the end of the third Grail War, an organization from the United States that has magi separate from the London based Mage Association as members took data from Fuyuki's Grail War and planned their own ritual. After seventy years, they used the city Snowfield as the Sacred Land for their own Grail War. They were unable to successfully copy every aspect of the ritual, which lead to it acting only as an imitation that has lost the Saber class and allowed for the summoning of strange Servants due to the definition of a "hero" being blurred.

The Mage's Association has sent Rohngall and his pupil, Faldeus, to investigate the city and the status of the war. Faldeus, a spy from the US organization, has Rohngall sniped upon arrival, despite knowing that Rohngall was simply a puppet. He announces that their Holy Grail War has been in development and that it is real, which causes an uproar at the Clock Tower, and wishes to "advertise" the project to the Association.

Meanwhile, TYPE-MOON posted a PDF of the Fate/Apocrypha material from comiket 86, more of Joan of Arc Saber, loli Jack the Ripper, Rider  Astolfo, the Twelfth Paladin of Charlemagne and the like

Ufotable Shows Off "Fate/stay night" Blu-ray Differences

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Anime studio ufotable has posted an English version of their blog post explaining the differences that will be seen between the broadcast and Blu-ray versions of Fate/stay night. Using episode eight as an example, their digital team compares the Master (no pun intended, probably) edition to the versions filtered for TV.

They explain:

For the safely TV broadcasting, any TV programs before it on air it must use an auto detecting device called the paka-checker to check the brightness and the saturation. And the device will change the brightness and the saturation to fit the guide line.
