From the future, Real Action Heroes Archer shows his stuff

by Oansun

Archer has 'tude. And for good reason; the guy has seen some terrible things. Also done some things of which he's not entirely proud. And this may or may not turn out to be one of those things. The Real Action Heroes line has a good reputation for being the Sideshow Sixth Scale (or whatever equivalent...don't worry about that timeline) for anime and related items. The RAH Saber is pretty sweet. But every time a company tries an Archer...that face. Not really something to place but...nobody seems to get it just right. Too small maybe? Could be.

Otherwise, this guy looks pretty rad. His blades look ready for the slaughter, or to clank against some invisible swords. The cloak/jacket/robe/thing looks like a real winner; it is made of cloth and doesn't look like straight-up doll clothing (scaled down mess). Even if it basically is straight-up doll clothing. Under armor (not the brand) looks sleek and clean. The bow has some nice edges, though I can't tell if it's able to be drawn back. I would have liked his finger to be a little more realistic in holding an arrow, but I'm sure it's accurate enough to the show(s) to pass.

This is the first look, so it's still a prototype. Maybe there is time to get the face/head just right. Either way, Medicom expects an October 2015 release. But if it's consistent with other Archer figures, you might be waiting the better part of a decade for it. Just kidding...sort of. This is a sixth scale figure, and a picture of Archer with Rin is in the gallery for size comparison. Yes, he's winking. Winking toys are always great fun. In fact, that lounging picture is a good selling point, personally.

Julianne Films, Walking The Dog and Melusine Productions have announced plans to produce a French CG-animated adaptation of Jiro Taniguchi's manga The Summit of the Gods. Veteran National Geographic Magazine photographer Éric Valli and animator Jean-Christophe Roger will direct.

The manga, which was recognized by Agency for Cultural Affairs at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2001, is based on the novel by Baku Yumemakura and follows a photographer who finds a camera supposedly belonging to George Mallory, a mountaineer who went missing on Mount Everest. It's been released in English and Spanish by Fanfare/Ponent Mon and in French by Kana. It ran five volumes between 2000 and 2003 in Business Jump.

Last year, volume four was nominated for the American comic industry's Eisner Award for "Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia".

Ogiue Maniax on Patreon

by sdshamshel

Ogiue Maniax is a part of my life. Over the past 7+ years, I like to think that I’ve made a reputation for myself as consistently providing insightful commentary on anime and manga. I’ve never tried to monetize this blog, but am trying something out with a site called Patreon.

Patreon is sort of like Kickstarter, except rather than donating one time towards a singular goal, you would essentially be sponsoring me every month as a way to show your appreciation. You can give as much or as little as you want, and you can stop at any time or even set an upper limit in case you’re worried about spending money you don’t have. I also have some rewards for those who would like to contribute more, including the chance to tell me what to write about.

If you’re interested, head on over to my Patreon and take a look.

I want to stress that Ogiue Maniax will continue to be free. I genuinely love exploring and analyzing Japanese popular media, and that won’t ever stop.

Crunchyroll Adds "Saint Seiya - Sanctuary Arc" To Catalog

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Crunchyroll is pleased to announce another addition to its library of Saint Seiya episodes by adding the Sanctuary Arc for US and Canadian users. The complete arc starts streaming tonight at 5PM PST for Premium users, while Free users will be able to watch the first 15 episodes starting next week and 15 episodes every week thereafter.

It is said that any time evil begins to thrive in the world, Saints, the upholders of justice, will appear. Now is such a time. Thirteen years before our tale begins, Mitsumasa Kido, head of the powerful IGF (International Garrd Foundation), came across a dying man while vacationing in Greece. Touring the ruins near the Pope's holy sanctuary, Mitsumasa found Airos, the gold saint of Sagittarius, gasping his last breaths and muttering warnings of sinister forces that threaten the stability of the world. Fulfilling the dying saint's wish, Mitsumasa swore to protect the life of a special baby that Airos had saved from assassination and agreed to safeguard the magical gold armour of Sagittarius. Mitsumasa was true to his word and raised the baby as his own granddaughter, Saori, and kept the gold armour hidden until the time was right for someone pure of heart to wear it.

VIDEO: "Code Name: S.T.E.A.M." Adds "Fire Emblem" Characters Thanks to amiibo Support

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

This morning's Nintendo Direct presentation showed some more footage from Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., the strategy game from Fire Emblem devs Intelligent Systems. It's fitting, then, that S.T.E.A.M. will have amiibo support that brings some of the Fire Emblem cast—Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina specifically—in as playable characters.

More amiibo waves are on the way, and Nintendo says to expect more of the Marth amiibo later this year. The amiibo functionality is currently exclusive to New Nintendo 3DS, but an adapter should arrive at some point for those holding on to the old systems.

Code Name S.T.E.A.M. hits Nintendo 3DS in North America on March 13, with a European release to follow in May.
