Far more lethal than sharks, wolves, bears, or any other fanged beast is the tiny mosquito, which holds the title of world’s deadliest animal. The World Health Organization estimates that “millions” of people die every year from mosquito-borne diseases. Thankfully, scientists have come up with a strategy to greatly…

Man uses his Tesla's “summon” capability to evade parking tickets
Tesla owner Shawn Kennedy works in downtown Janeville, Wisconsin. The city recently imposed a two-hour parking limit. Kennedy now uses the "summon" feature (meant to be used to have your car drive up to you when it is in a parking lot) of his Tesla to move his car every two hours from the convenience of his office.
I was not sure when I would use this feature... till today. @elonmusk @tesla pic.twitter.com/bC6rFt2SuW

Japanese self-sharpening mechanical pencils give the lead a tiny turn every time you lift the tip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_OXoxymeho
Uni's Kuru Toga Roulettes are mechanical pencils that solve a problem I've never had, which is that the tip wears differentially, eventually creating a blunt instrument (I am a clod whose draftsmanship looks like I tried writing in a zeppelin caught in a tornado, so this is not a problem for me) -- the Roulette contains a tiny gearing mechanism that rotates the lead by a quarter-turn every time you lift the tip (e.g. between words); this creates an even wear around the lead's tip, keeping it sharp and reducing the likelihood that it will snap. Well, This Japanese Private Rocket Launch Certainly Could Have Gone Better
Saturday’s test of the MOMO-2 unmanned rocket, which was scheduled to be the first privately funded Japanese rocket to reach space, went very poorly for Interstellar Technologies’ Takafumi Horie, a convicted securities fraudster who a 2014 Financial Times profile dubbed “Japan’s enfant terrible.” Footage of the event…
Marcell Ozuna Tried Way Too Hard To Catch This Fly Ball
The Brewers whupped the Cardinals tonight, and the Milwaukee scoring got rolling with a two-out, first-inning fly ball from Jesus Aguilar. It was high, and it was deep, but it wasn’t quite as gone as St. Louis left fielder Marcell Ozuna assumed it was. While Ozuna was trying out his best Spider-Man impression, the…
High tech lock is "invincible to people who do not have a screwdriver"
LockPickingLawyer, a recreational lock picker, was sent a fingerprint padlock for review. He emailed the manufacture to let them know that he'd discovered a security vulnerability: "Upon examining the lock, I found that if you remove the three screws, the lock falls apart. The shackle can be opened and relocked without the owner's fingerprint or knowledge."
The manufacturer replied: "the lock is invincible to the people who do not have a screwdriver."
Thank goodness a set of torx drivers costs $4, or this might be a concern for anyone using this lock.
The company that sent me the pictured fingerprint lock has provided the security quote of the year: “...the lock is invincible to the people who do not have a screwdriver.” pic.twitter.com/dmpYHAmMiY

Tumbleweeds invade a California town and residents have to call 911
Like a scene from a 1970s horror flick, tumbleweeds invaded a neighborhood in Victorville, California on Monday, racing towards a neighborhood at 60mph and piling up so high against houses that some residents were calling 911 for help.
“We’re not exactly sure how many homes are affected, but we’re estimating about 100 to 150 homes in that area," a Victorville spokesman told the Victorville Daily Press. “The primary goal is to clear the front of the houses, to remove the tumbleweeds in order to allow residents safe access to their homes...With the winds as strong as they are, as soon as they clear certain areas, more tumbleweeds are blowing right back in.” Not surprisingly, crews had to work overtime into the night to get rid of these thorny invaders.
This Hero Is Reminding People About Their Tweets Years Later, Just Like They Asked
It turns out that a lot of people have posted Tweets saying "Remind me in X years that..." They probably thought everyone forgot about it by now, but one brave man is making sure they remember, right on time.

Take a look at a cool manicure with a used tampon theme
Artist Annelies Hoffmeyr has a fun Instagram page that mischievously plays with Barbies, jewelry, and provocative "fashion shoots," if you will, including the use of tampons as hair curlers, cigarettes, and nail art. This is the coolest period art I've seen yet.
I really don't understand why my tampon nails never became a trend 🤷🏼♀️
