True Mechanism of Spontaneous Order from Turbulence in Two-Dimensional Superfluid Manifolds

by Toshiaki Kanai and Wei Guo

Author(s): Toshiaki Kanai and Wei Guo

In a 2D turbulent fluid containing pointlike vortices, Lars Onsager predicted that adding energy to the fluid can lead to the formation of persistent clusters of like-signed vortices, i.e., Onsager vortex (OV) clusters. In the evolution of 2D superfluid turbulence in a uniform disk-shaped Bose-Einst...

Ion exchange in atomically thin clays and micas

by Yi-Chao Zou

Nature Materials, Published online: 26 August 2021; doi:10.1038/s41563-021-01072-6

Layered clays are of interest for membranes and many other applications but their ion-exchange dynamics remain unexplored in atomically thin materials. Here, using electron microscopy, it is found that the ion diffusion for few-layer two-dimensional clays approaches that of free water and that superlattice cation islands can form in twisted and restacked materials.

Two-dimensional electronic-vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy for interactions of electronic and nuclear motions at interfaces [Chemistry]

by Gang-Hua Deng, Yuqin Qian, Tong Zhang, Jian Han, Hanning Chen, Yi Rao
Interactions of electronic and vibrational degrees of freedom are essential for understanding excited-states relaxation pathways of molecular systems at interfaces and surfaces. Here, we present the development of interface-specific two-dimensional electronic–vibrational sum frequency generation (2D-EVSFG) spectroscopy for electronic–vibrational couplings for excited states at interfaces and surfaces. We demonstrate this 2D-EVSFG...
