Dark Souls is a beautiful game in more ways than one. It's a terrific feat of design, for starters. But it's also just lovely to look at, if you can relax for five seconds and take in the view.

Middle Earth Is Being Recreated On A 1:1 Scale
DsiderOH MAN THE EAGLES JOKES, THEY SURE DON'T GET TIRED HUH
We've talked about the Outerra engine a few times here on Kotaku, and every time we do, someone invariably asks "but what is this actually for"? Well, here's one application: it's great for making a 1:1 recreation of Middle Earth.
A New Dreamcast Game Was Released This Week
DsiderHow I wish I didn't own the pos version of the Dreamcast that doesn't play any outer-region or burned discs, and doesn't have VGA out. It's basically a paperweight that plays the Berserk game in English.
It doesn't matter that the Dreamcast was killed off over a decade ago. So long as people own Dreamcast consoles, other people will keep making games for it.
Game Artists Will Show You How To Be A Game Artist (For Free!)
DsiderWELL THEN
If you're an aspiring games artist, and you see the stuff we post here on Fine Art and think "uunnnhhhhhh I'll never be able to afford to get that good", you might be in luck.
Nintendo Boss Is Taking a Huge Pay Cut (Because of the Wii U)
Dsider:|
The Wii U isn't doing as well as Nintendo had hoped. Someone must take responsibility! That someone is Nintendo president Satoru Iwata—as well as other Nintendo execs.
Let's Compare Old Video Game Scenes With Their Movie Counterparts
Copying scenes from movies, and putting their 8-bit replicas into their licensed video games was a bit of thing back in the NES era. NYC-based artist Brother Brain started a series where he compares these particular scenes using animated GIFs.
Burgers with Chocolate Sauce Coming to Japan
DsiderStahp
Chocolate? I love chocolate. Honey mustard? Ditto. And burgers? Boy, I love burgers. I adore all of these—just not at the same time, thank you.
Japanese Cult Classic Revived as New Game and Anime
DsiderEr, okay? I'm curious in seeing how they try to grow this franchise from what is otherwise a pretty lousy retro game from what I saw of it that one year at that shiftylook thing at Comic Con.
27 years after her original debut, Wonder Momo, one of Namco Bandai's older IPs, is getting a franchise.
Snorlax Makes an Excellent Pillow
DsiderYeush
Snorlax. Sleeping. Pillows. It makes sense, doesn't it? That was likely the thought process behind this actual Snorlax pillow.
Investigators Raid Norwegian Game Studio
DsiderNote: The faction of said MMO featured in that screenshot above, is indeed the Illuminati.
The Oslo headquaters of MMO developer Funcom found itself under siege this morning, as Norwegian economic crime unit Økokrim launches an investigation into suspected infringement of the provisions of the Securities Trading Act revolving the 2012 launch of The Secret World.
World of Warcraft's Impressive First Decade, By the Numbers
DsiderNote that one statistic down there: 11 million idiots who bought into the last expansion to play as a joke race made canon. Thanks guys.
The numbers may be shrinking a bit in recent years but, when you look at it, the sheer aggregate of people who've made a toon, joined a raid or bought a pet in World of Warcraft is still mind-boggling.
Massive EVE Online Battle Destroys Nearly $300,000 Worth of Spaceships
DsiderEverything about this game is so ridiculous, I love it! I just wouldn't want to play it. Unless it were my actual job. Even then...
Yesterday's humongous space battle in EVE Online—by far the largest in the 10-year history of the spacefaring MMO—is estimated to have destroyed roughly $284,000 worth of war materiel. That is a real-world value, too. The fighting got so big that CBS News—the network of Edward R. Murrow—sent a war correspondent.
Former SNL Star Has Some Killer Star Wars Impressions
Bill Hader has spent a sufficient amount of time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that he can do lots of impressions. But, still, I'm not sure I was prepared for his Jabba. Damn.
She Was Harassed By A Games Reporter. Now She's Speaking Out.
Alice Mercier isn't the real name of the games industry veteran that reporter Josh Mattingly harassed on Facebook. She isn't willing to give her real name, at least not publicly; she's afraid of the professional repercussions. This is a theme that will come up again and again over the course of our interview, and every subsequent conversation: weighing the toll of harassment against the cost of confronting it.
They've Turned A Classic JRPG Into An Always-Online, Free-To-Play Joke
DsiderYou see this shit? This is one of the possible futures Nintendo could be headed toward now. It's not all unwarranted paranoia (just mostly).
Last week Namco Bandai quietly released the English version of classic 1995 JRPG Tales of Phantasia onto iTunes. It's just like the fully-voiced PSP version of the game, only with sloppy touch controls, in-app purchases, fewer save points and an always-online requirement. Can we not do this?
Watch Kirby Suck Like He Has Never Sucked Before
DsiderAaaaaaaaaaaaah that beetle hat is so baller.
The coolest thing about Kirby has always been his ability to suck in his enemies and absorb their powers. And the newest game in the series, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, definitely has plenty of that.
Get Married In Ciel NoSurge This Weekend
DsiderOh dear lord. The Love Plus system is spreading after all. Well, at least it will never envelop any game featuring any female characters that I like. Unless of course, Sakamoto grows even more senile and goes there with Samus.
At which point, I will buy a ticket to Japan. And I will kill him.
You can have dinner with her and go on dates, all on your Vita of course. Starting on January 30, players will be able to marry her.

One Next-Gen Voice Command I Can Do Without
DsiderOh voice technology. You're not helping my desire for GITS-level communication to replace conventional means.
I can understand why game developers working on next-gen games might be psyched to play around with voice commands. They represent an interesting and relatively new way to let players interact with games. But there's at least one next-gen voice command I can happily do without.
Buying Japanese Arcade Cabinets Isn't for the Weak, Feeble or Cheap
Perhaps you have dreams of owning your own Japanese arcade game cabinet. Heck, maybe you already do. But if you are in the market for one (especially a Konami music game cabinet), just know what you are getting yourself into.
Let Japan Amuse You with GIFs
DsiderLately, people here are complaining about the abundance of gifs in articles and comments. Either because they have some beef with them, or they break their precious smart phones or some shit. Honestly, I've begun to enjoy their suffering.
Yes, there are your typical GIFs: You know, the ones from anime, movies, and viral videos. But beyond those, there are some creative GIFs coming out of Japan.
The Colbert Report Was Ripped Off By a Chinese TV Show
DsiderThis was amazing, and I really hope he manages to get onto the show.
A Chinese show called The Banquet is being accused of ripping off The Colbert Report's opening. For good reason!
When Game Glitches Become Nightmare Fuel
DsiderI thought I'd be terrified before I went to bed at first, but this followed by the gifs in the comments had me laughing my ass off instead.
One minute, you're talking to a sweet old Italian lady in Mafia II, the next, you're tripping balls.
10 Comics Marvel Would Desperately Like to Forget They Published
DsiderSome utterly hilarious examples in the comments too.
It's been over 50 years since Marvel effectively began the Silver Age of comics, and while the company has had its ups and downs, their output cannot be denied: Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, the Avengers — their contributions to pop culture have been enormous. But not every comic Marvel published was a masterpiece — in fact, some aren't even good. And some are so bad that Marvel would like to pretend never existed at all. Here are 10 of them.
The One Feature All Modern JRPGs Should Have
DsiderWow. Wooooooooooooow.
There is perhaps no feature more reviled in gaming than the one this column is named after: gamers, as a general rule, hate random encounters.
Sony Online Entertainment Shuts Down Four MMOs
DsiderIt was as if a mil-- three dozen voices cried out in boredom and were suddenly silenced. Well, I heard Vanguard was kind of cool, but I'll never know now. I'm still spoken for anyway.
Citing the need to refocus its resources in other areas, Sony Online Entertainment today announced the impending closure of four massively mutiplayer online games — Free Realms, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and Wizardry Online.
The Pokémon Mash-Up Of My Dreams
DsiderOh my god.
"Nintendo should make a Pokémon MMO" is usually the suggestion people like to default to when coming up with ideas for what Nintendo should do with the Pokémon franchise. But, to me at least, that's not nearly as awesome of an an idea as a potential Pokémon x Animal Crossing game is.
12 Beautiful Options For Your Next Desktop Wallpaper
DsiderA couple of standout ones in here.
Joanne Harper is a screenshot artist, risking life and (her graphics card's) limb to bring you pictures of video games so pretty you'll want to stick them straight onto your desktop.
A Man Has Spent Three Years Trying To Walk To The End Of Minecraft
DsiderAnd if he ever reaches the end, you know he'll become a Reaver.
There's a place in Minecraft called the Far Lands. It's the point where the game's code, which builds each world procedurally, starts to collapse under the weight of its own sums, breaks apart and glitches out.
Pikachu Is Great at Impersonating Other Pokémon Characters
Pika. Pika, Pika. While Pikachu’s vocabulary might seem limited, its impersonations aren’t.
Go Berserk For Some Terrific Cosplay
Persona 3 cosplay. Assassin's Creed IV cosplay. Star Wars cosplay. Hobbit cosplay. All these, and more, on this week's instalment of FANY PANTS *cue delightfully up-beat TV intro music*.
