by Chris Kohler
Dsider

One of my formative and favorite series of games, RIP

There’s a certain strain of Nintendo fan that’s probably wondering, these days: What’s up with Wario platformers? Once a staple of the company’s lineup, action games starring Mario’s bizarro-world clone have been MIA for nearly a decade. By reviewing the history of Wario, we might understand why. So let’s do it.

Mario Kart 8's Splatoon Inklings Must Be Protected At All Costs

by Heather Alexandra
Dsider

Seems like a hard counter to the inherent animosity between the Mario characters that has been hilariously documented through videos at this point.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a great time. Cruising around tracks and shooting Koopa shells all over the place will never get old. But someone’s enjoying it way more than anyone else: the Inklings from Splatoon. They are precious children and happy to be here. Be nice to them.

"Kill La Kill" Character Designer Shows Off "Akira" Tribute

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

According to the integration scene in Akira, April 25, 2017 is the date that Shōtarō Kaneda first got his driver's license. Now, based on his self-portraits, you might have deduced that animator/character designer Sushio (Kill La Kill) is a big Akira fan. As the driver's license factoid made waves on social media, Sushio treated followers to a look at his Akira tribute from OTOMO: A Global Tribute to the Mind Behind Akira.

OTOMO: A Global Tribute to the Mind Behind Akira is out from Kodansha. They describe it:

With the manga and anime Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo changed art and pop culture worldwide. Now some of the most admired illustrators and comics artists in the world have come together to pay tribute to this master, in a beautiful art book.

This 168-page collection began life as a limited-edition tribute to Otomo given only to attendees of the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival, where Otomo was recipient of the Grand Prize in 2015. Now it’s available to readers and collectors around the world, with additional content from a list of more than 80 fine artists, illustrators, and comics legends, including Stan Sakai, Jiro Taniguchi, Tomer and Asaf Hanuka, and many others. In full-color at a large size.

Check out an addition preview here.
