Google’s latest Search doodle is the perfect Halloween treat
Google has released a number of whimsical doodles in the past, but the search giant’s latest may be its best yet.
In the company’s most recent, Halloween-themed doodle, Search users are treated to an interactive game featuring a feline wizard named Momo.
The objective of the game is to help Momo save her friends from a group of mischievous ghosts. For the most part, that means quickly drawing lines either with one’s finger or mouse, which banishes incoming ghosts. It’s a simple affair: more fun than games like this have any right to be, and its charming art style helps sell the experience.
Check out the doodle by visiting Google.
Reports: Destiny 2 will be on the PC

Hello Destiny
With over 30 million players registered since its 2014 launch, Destiny is one of the most popular shooters on consoles today. Now it looks like PC players will be able to get in on the action with upcoming sequel Destiny 2, according to online reports.
The rumor got going yesterday with a NeoGAF poster citing "somebody that works at Activision" as confirming that PC support for the sequel was being communicated to Activision employees. That tidbit was then fleshed out by Kotaku's Jason Schreier, who says he heard about the PC plans "earlier this year" and cites "several sources" in confirming the information. Schreier seems well-positioned to know, too, as he previously wrote an in-depth report on Destiny's messy development history.
The reported addition of PC support will likely be aided by the fact that Activision and Bungie officially abandoned the last-generation consoles (i.e., Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) for Destiny's last Rise of Iron expansion. That likely means any sequel won't have to worry about scaling back the PC experience so it also works on console hardware that is over a decade old at this point. The upcoming launch of the PS4 Pro and Xbox's Project Scorpio should also ensure that the development team can target relatively high-end PCs alongside the console market.
Slip on a Pair of Wireless, Noise-Canceling On-Ear Headphones For $40

We’ve seen our fair share of cheap Bluetooth ear buds, but how about on-ears? Mpow’s Muze headphones are wireless, foldable, well-reviewed, and even noise-canceling. That’s a heck of a package for $40. Remember, your next phone might not have a headphone jack, so this is as good a time as any to get accustomed to wireless.

Xbox's Kudo Tsunoda moves to new role at Microsoft

Volkswagen's US sales go up in October, despite diesel emissions scandal
There is a world in which consumers swiftly punish Volkswagen where it counts — the coffers — for its massive, systematic deception of the Environmental Protection Agency in which it cheated its way around diesel emissions tests for half a decade.
This isn't that world.
Volkswagen of America just reported its October sales, the first full month of reporting since the scandal broke, and guess what? Sales are up 0.24 percent year over year, likely thanks in part to enormous discounts being offered to prop up volume. Now, perhaps they would've been up more in the absence of the scandal. But if consumers haven't outright rewarded VW for deceiving them, they certainly haven't done much to punish the automaker, either.
I don't really know...
Fallout Shelter coming to Android on Aug. 13 with new features, update coming to iOS
Nearly two months after its surprise E3 announcement, Fallout Shelter — the free-to-play mobile vault management sim — will make its Android debut on Aug. 13, accompanied by a host of updates to the game. At a Fallout panel at QuakeCon today, Bethesda made the announcement and detailed some of the updates, which will also come to the iOS release on the same day.
The update brings with it new enemies to fight, like Deathclaw — which will be much harder to kill than other enemies in the game — and new rewards, like Mr. Handy, who can go through your vault, fight, collect resources for you and can also be sent out to the wasteland.
Whether you're on Android or iOS, next month's update to #FalloutShelter adds Mr. Handy, Deathclaws, and...

This is why everyone hates in-car navigation systems
Chris Ysebertlooks about right. :)
Subaru recently posted a YouTube video touting Starlink, the company's in-house navigation and entertainment system. You'd think they'd make it look good; companies are typically in the business of making their products seem like pure, unfiltered magic. Not Subaru, which is apparently content to let its in-dash electronics trainwreck over the course of one minute, 43 seconds.
It's hard to believe Grow Home is a Ubisoft game
In my dream world, Ubisoft would primarily put out smaller personal projects like Grow Home, but, I get it -- there's substantially more money to be made on Assassin's Creed and its ilk. I'll cherish these moments whenever I can, and boy, Grow Home sure looks like it's worth cherishing.
Ben was only just summarizing this adorable platforming adventure the other day and here it is, out on Steam for $7.99 with Ubisoft's pesky Uplay service nowhere in sight. I'm smiling so hard.
While I'd encourage you to watch the full trailer for its uplifting music, I made a gif excerpt in case you've only got about seven seconds of curiosity left:
At $10, yeah, Guild Wars 2 is worth playing
As a casual MMO player, I've always liked the Guild Wars series -- no monthly subscription fits my lifestyle, you know? I don't have to feel guilty about wasting money by not playing "enough," whatever that is. If you're of a similar mindset, this weekend's Guild Wars 2 sale is for you.
The game will be 75 percent off, which amounts to $9.99 for the Digital Heroic Edition. Worth it. Look for the deal to activate at 8:00am Pacific on January 24. You'll then have until 11:59pm Pacific on January 25 to make your purchase. And if you can finish downloading Guild Wars 2 in time, ArenaNet is also offering double experience points for all players this weekend.
Also, with this being PAX South weekend, expect news on the possible expansion Heart of Thorns.
This Weekend: Guild Wars 2 at PAX South, an Unprecedented Sale, and Double XP for All [Guild Wars 2]
Hatsune Miku was on David Letterman last night, watch it here
In case you missed it, the Vocaloid-powered digital pop idol Hatsune Miku appeared on David Letterman last night. Comprised of technology that's used in entertainment like the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, she serenaded the crowd and millions of fans across the globe.
You can watch it by taking a peek at the video above. I don't know how this happened, but I love it.
Wind Mobile dropping rates for users roaming in USA and Canada, will offer 3G speeds across Canada
Wind Mobile is bringing in some new roaming rates for Canadians traveling off the Wind Home network in Canada and the United States. The carrier’s new roaming charges go into effect next week and will see the price of data roaming drop significantly.
Roaming is never cheap, but carriers are slowly realizing that competitive roaming rates are becoming more important for customers, especially those that travel to close-by destinations on a regular basis.
Back in January, Wind Mobile introduced a $15 add-on for unlimited US roaming. Now, the company is cutting the price of roaming for users who don’t have this package.
According to a leaked Wind Mobile document obtained by MobileSyrup, the new plans will see outgoing and incoming calls to Canada and USA numbers drop from 20¢ per minute to 15¢ per minute. Outgoing texts will drop from 15¢ to just 5¢ while incoming texts will remain free.
Perhaps the biggest news is on the data side, as data roaming will drop from $1/MB to just 5¢/MB. Wind Mobile users roaming off network in Canada will also now get HSPA+ download speeds up to 42.2 Mbps.
Another change is the addition of a $7.50/month bring-your-own-device (BYOD) credit. The document notes that the credits will be added to one’s account to be used with add-ons and pay-per-use features.
These changes will take effect on August 21st.
(Thanks tipster!)
Look at these SpyParty characters talk!
Chris YsebertOoooooooh
Remember the five new SpyParty characters? Of course you do! I even came up with elaborate backstories for each of them based solely on their appearance. Surely everyone remembers that?
Chris Hecker, developer of SpyParty, released a video today showing the new characters in action. Now, remember, "action" in SpyParty is moving around and acting totally unsuspicious and, in this case, chatting it up.
Chris also posted some words on the SpyParty blog, where he mentions the possibility of having these characters playable at PAX Prime. They will hit the public beta at some point, but whether that's before or after PAX Prime is a secret to everyone....even Chris! The blog also shows off the animation innards of Ms. H and draws similarities to the fembots of the Bionic Woman, naturally.
Chrome 37 Beta brings Material Design to Chrome for Android
Chris YsebertYou trying this out, Keith?
Google today announced the beta release of Chrome 37 for Android. The app will hit the Google Play store sometime today and brings a couple of key changes.
The most important is probably the Material Design makeover. Google has brought the Material Design aesthetic to Chrome beta in preparation for Android L, the next version of Android. Announced at Google I/O, Android L will feature Material Design elements throughout the OS.
Chrome’s first taste of Material Design brings a flatter graphics that use shadows to create depth as well as tabs that can be shuffled up and down and tilt when you reach the top or bottom. The whole idea is to make everything cleaner and to use movement and shadows to create depth and purpose to establish structure and the different movable elements of the app. Google has already brought Android L to Google Docs and Sheets, as well as the Play Store.
In terms of functionality, the beta version of the Chrome 37 for Android also eliminates the need for users to re-enter their password when they want to access Google services. In other words, if you’re signed into Chrome, you’re signed into everything.
If you have more than one Google Account, you can sign into all of them, and Chrome beta will automatically sign you in to those accounts on the web. You can switch accounts at the touch of a button and your bookmarks, passwords, and other Chrome stuff will be kept in sync across your devices, using the account you choose.
We piloted a giant robot from 'Pacific Rim' using Oculus Rift
Chris YsebertUm, yes please. Oculus killer app? I think so.
Last night, Legendary Pictures gave us a brief look at how it wants to bring the worlds of Pacific Rim and Guillermo del Toro's upcoming gothic horror film Crimson Peak closer to real life. For Pacific Rim, the company teamed up with Oculus to put fans inside a virtual Jaeger. For Peak, del Toro himself was on hand to walk us through a gallery of props and costumes, explaining some of his vision for what we can expect from the film.
