Bosch offers $3,000 wireless chargers to Leaf and Volt owners

by Mariella Moon

DNP Bosch crazy expensive wireless charger

Bosch recently released an $450 charging solution for EVs, but if you want to go wireless, it's going to cost you a lot more. The company has formed an exclusive partnership with Evatran for the distribution and installation of its wireless chargers for the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt. Each Plugless Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging System (now that's a tongue-twister) costs $2,998 for the Volt and $3,098 for the Leaf, not including taxes and installation fees. It's comprised of a wall-mounted control panel that provides electricity to the parking pad, which transmits power to your vehicle. You've got to admit it's convenient when all you have to do to juice up is park on top of the pad, but would you actually shell out that much cash in the name of convenience when plugging a (cheaper) charger in is no Herculean task?

PlayStation 4

by Mike Newman

As the backlash waves crash upon the Xbox shore, Sony has finally shown us the PS4. With more of a focus on gaming (though this might just be a jab at the all-encompassing Big Brother aspect of the Xbox One), the PS4 will not require an internet connection for you to play. Perhaps the biggest news is the fact that the new PlayStation will clock in at a hundred bucks less than its Microsoft competitor. The new DualShock 4 wireless ...

Speaking of Indoctrination!

by Kilowatt3
"A Hayward, Calif., elementary school is planning a toy gun exchange for later this month, modeled after the exchanges law enforcement authorities hold to collect real guns. Kids who hand in the play weapons will get a book and a raffle ticket for a bicycle. Strobridge Elementary Principal Charles Hill said he hopes rounding up the toy guns will stop kids from growing up to play with real ones."

Have to inform homeowner of CC in AR

by perfection
Noticed on handgunlaw.us that AR's 5-73-306 says:

"(D) Any licensee entering a private home shall notify the occupant that the licensee is carrying a concealed handgun."

Was very surprised by this! How many other states have similar laws that you all know of?

Glock 19 Grip Mod

by Boomer928
In the NRA Marketplace email I opened a while ago there was a video about cutting down the G19 grip so it's the same size as the 26 and 27 but with a longer barrel. I'm assuming some new 26 mags would need to be bought for it as well. Seems like a good idea to me; especially for Winter months. Take a look at the video and please give me your opinion of this idea. Also does anyone know a gunsmith that does this or do you think a simple scroll saw and some files could accomplish this?

Outstanding article (LINK) on proper pistol grip MUST HAVE

by GeorgiaShooter
I am simply passing on an article written by one of the best shooters I've seen around our area and a master firearms instructor. The way he outlines his ideas with clear steps and crystal clear photos makes this process of learning the proper grip much easier than even watching a video. I can say from my own experience this vastly improves your speed, accuracy and how the gun presents perfectly on target even before full arm extension. And your recoil management graduates to a whole other level. Here is the information he posted on the georgiapacking.org site and forum. He has other videos and articles on the web under Claude Werner. I highly recommend. He is also a master shooter in several divisions of IDPA and a long list of credentials and accolades. He has an almost cyborg perfection to his draw stroke and shooting abilities for self defense. ENJOY the pass along. You have also seen Claude on NRA, Personal Defense Network and other publications and I believe he participates in the shot show every year in some manner. I follow his youtube channel and other activities from a learning standpoint.

The proper grip for any handgun should accomplish several objectives:

  1. Maximize our hand friction on the handgun. The way we prevent the handgun from moving around in our hand(s) is simply via friction. Therefore, the more hand surface we have in contact with the gun, the more friction we can achieve.
  2. Minimize the gun’s motion during recoil by stabilizing the supporting joints, principally the wrists, when the gun fires.
  3. Reduce the distance between the line of the handgun’s bore and our hands to the smallest amount possible. This diminishes the rotational torque generated by the handgun upon firing.

After establishing the appropriate grip, a series of index points can be used to feel when the grip has been properly achieved. Especially in defensive encounters, there is no time for visually checking whether the proper grip is in place. Having a set of index points allows a shooter to establish a proper firing grip in the holster and during the drawstroke, knowing by feel that the grip is as it should be.

“WARNING: Use Only In Case of Real Emergency.” These words are engraved on the caseback of the new Breitling Emergency 2, and you’d better take heed. Pull out the antenna to impress your buddies at your backyard barbecue and two things will happen: (1) a helicopter will land on your patio, and (2) you'll pay an unpleasant fine for setting off a false search and rescue mission. We break down the watch that will save your life.

Breakdown: Blancpain X Fathoms

Blancpain-x-Fathoms-breakdown-gear-patrol-lead-full

When venerable Swiss marque Blancpain introduced its first diving watch in 1953, it was thought that 50 fathoms, or 91 meters, was the deepest a man could dive on SCUBA. Hence the name of their groundbreaking timepiece, arguably the world’s first purpose-built dive watch, the Fifty Fathoms. Now, Blancpain's back at it again with their cheekily named X Fathoms ($38,700, limited edition). We break down this leviathan.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 announced

by Edwin
Wmy2k7

The official phone of ace cigars?

One of the brilliant masterstrokes that Samsung has done was to roll out phones of all types, targeting not only the entry level and high end segments of the markets, but also work to deliver the best experience for folks who happen to like mid-range handsets. After all, with the bell curve graph showing off that the number of “average” folks are always the highest figure, it makes perfect sense then, that this could very well be the bread and butter segment for any company with their product, just like how Nokia used to conquer the entire handset range before the explosion of the smartphone. Having said that, Samsung is back with their latest addition to the Galaxy range, having announced the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3, which is a smartphone that intends to bring a slew of features from the higher end models onto a package that would be easy on your pocket in terms of finances and size.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 is said to be powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in tow, making it carry the latest version of the Android operating system. Bear in mind that this is not a smartphone which will carry LTE connectivity right out of the box, as it depends on which market that it will roll out in, so some variants of it would max out at 3G. When it comes to connectivity options, the Galaxy Ace 3 is nothing much to shout about, but it does get the job done – with Wi-Fi 802.11n, Wi-Fi Direct, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0. There is also a 5-megapixel camera at the back for avid shutterbugs.

8GB of internal memory is pretty much average these days, although I do wonder just how much space would Samsung’s pre-loaded software take up, as the 16GB model of the Samsung Galaxy S4 had nearly half of its internal memory occupied by stuff from Samsung themselves, leaving users with just 8GB or so of storage space right out of the box. It is a good thing that Samsung decided to throw in a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, allowing you to carry all of your other media with you on a 64GB microSD card.

MSI announces next generation G Series gaming laptops

by Edwin

If you are an avid gamer, then you would surely have a decent desktop gaming PC configuration set up right at home, complete with its fair share of futuristic looking gaming keyboard and mouse, accompanied by the state of the art gaming speakers to that you can hear the exact spot where your opponent is in a map, before gunning him or her down with that flick of a wrist and press of the mouse button. Of course, not everyone has the kind of time to just sit at home all day long to indulge in playing computer games – some of us have to go through this thing called “work” so that we can make ends meet at the end of the month. Well, how about bringing gaming on the go with you then? This is where MSI comes in, having unveiled their next generation G Series gaming laptops.

One of these gems from the new G Series gaming laptops include the GT70 Extreme Edition that will come with an Intel 4930MX chipset, in addition to showcasing NVIDIA’s latest GeForce GTX 700M Series graphics, Killer Doubleshot and Intel’s 4th Generation Core i7 processors. All of those ought to pack enough graphical and processing firepower even though you are away from home, to handle the latest games, right? Sure, you might not be able to crank things up like your desktop, but the experience comes pretty close in comparison, I am sure.

Not only that, the new G Series gaming laptops will be able to play 4K video at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which happens to be quadruple the amount of time of traditional 1080p high-definition video. The next generation GT and GE models will also come with expanded storage, improved cooling and display outputs. The inclusion of Super RAID 2 has increased the amount of SSD storage from the last generation Super RAID with 3 SSD’s in RAID instead of 2, while Cooler Boost 2 delivers an efficient single fan cooling solution that is capable of lowering the average temperature by a whopping 8⁰ C . Last but not least, the new Matrix Display feature would enable you to have a far more productive day at the office, as you can hook up to 3 external displays so that you end up with a total of up to 4 independent displays, the native notebook display included. Sure, it works great when you are gaming, too.

Ballet is considered one of man's most graceful artistic endeavors, but as is often the case, through the right lens, mother nature can still easily one-up us. In this case that lens happens to be pointed at the complex interactions between a falling water drop and a pool of water, capturing their intricate dance at 2,500 fps.

Turns Out Google's Reader Replacement Is Pretty Much Useless

When Google announced back in March that it would be killing off Reader on July 1st, a lot of people freaked out. At the time Google cited a decline in usage for its demise beyond a general narrowing of focus on core products. Today, though, Google has clarified to Wired why it killed Reader, and what will fill the void. And it's pretty sad.

It turns out that Michael Graves-designed teapot with its unsettling resemblance to Hitler might not have been the only Nazi-related product in J.C. Penney stores. As Conan O'Brien discovered on his show the other night, the teapot is apparently just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the department store intentionally, or unintentionally, trying to cash in on Hitler's regime.

The secretive data-mining company works directly with the American government, has a product named "Prism," and some very close ties to Facebook, one of the NSA's top targets.

Why Is Anyone Surprised That the Government Spies on Us?

by Adam Clark Estes

Why Is Anyone Surprised That the Government Spies on Us?

Everybody from Tea Party patriots to left wing weirdos are up in arms over PRISM, the government's ultra secret surveillance program that's been reading Americans' emails, listening to their phone calls and raking through their Internet data—among other things—since 2007. Details of the program exploded onto the public stage this week just hours after news of the National Security Agency's (NSA) monitoring of Verizon phone records. But we now know that it's not just the NSA that's spying on people domestically, and it's not just Verizon that's getting caught in the middle. It's everybody.
