"Glass Mask" Gag Anime to Go Holographic in New Theatrical Event

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Get ready to make your life more theatrical -- the cast of Glass Mask is coming to the big screen in glorious 3D.

The original Glass Mask, which consists of a long-running manga and two anime adaptations, follows rookie actress Maya Kitajima and her pedigreed rival Ayumi Himekawa through the unforgiving world of theatre as they compete to see which of them will become the successor to their mentor. CG gag anime The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D transports Tsukikage-sensei and her pupils into the present day, where they use their theatrical skills to bring excitement and passion to the modern world.

This summer, the DMM VR Theater in Yokohama will be presenting a brand new big-screen installment in the gag anime series, featuring a new story and a brand-new (still secret) character created just for this installment.

Plans for a BD release in Japan have also been announced, as well as two upcoming promotional events. The first, to be held November 4 in Tokyo, will feature Kana Asumi (the voice of Maya) and Rumi Ookubo (the voice of Ayumi). Tickets will be offered by lottery, which can be entered with purchase of the BD set.

The second event will be held January 21, 2018, also in Tokyo. The entire main cast -- the abovementioned, Atsuko Tanaka (Tsukikage-sensei), Daisuke Ono (Masumi Hayami), and Yuuki Kaji (Yuu Sakurakouji) -- will be present for this event. Fans who purchase the BD set will be able to preorder their tickets to this event.

Bonuses also include a sticker and an acrylic smartphone stand.

The 2005 Glass Mask is also streaming on Crunchyroll. The Japanese release of The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D goes on sale May 26.

Mark Levin Admits He Has No Proof Obama Ordered Wiretaps: 'I'm Not Nostradamus Here'

Radio host Mark Levin, who sent President Donald Trump into a rage on Twitter after floating a conspiracy theory about wiretaps ordered by President Barack Obama, admitted on Sunday that he had no concrete proof that the former president was involved.

On his radio show and in a column for Breitbart, Levin called for an investigation into Obama's so-called "silent coup" against the new president. Without presenting any proof, Levin alleged that Obama personally ordered wiretaps of Trump associates.

"The evidence is overwhelming," Levin told Fox News host Pete Hegseth on Sunday. "This is about the Obama administration's spying."

Levin repeating the list of "sources" offered in his Brietbart column as proof that Obama allegedly ordered the wiretapping of Trump's team. A careful reading of those reports, however, do not back up Levin's conspiracy theory.

"Donald Trump is being attacked for [the accusations] he tweeted," Levin said. "Donald Trump is the victim, his campaign is the victim, his transition team is the victim, his surrogates are the victim. These are police state tactics."

When pressed for details on President Obama's personal involvement, Levin replied, "I'm not Nostradamus here."

CNN: Trump Pulled Pre-Speech Immigration 'Bait And Switch' At Press Luncheon

by John Amato

CNN White House correspondent Sara Murray told "Inside Politics" that officials confirmed they spread bogus happy talk on an immigration compromise during a private White House luncheon with television news anchors to garner favorable press coverage before Trump delivered his speech to the Joint Sessions.

And it worked magnificently.

Yesterday, Fox News' Shepard Smith mocked Chris Wallace for being used as a puppet to pass on information from a White House anonymous source that Trump approved of.

Towards the end of the CNN broadcast, host John King anchored the "empty your notebooks" segment and CNN's Sara Murray had a big scoop. The TV anchors got played like fools during the White House luncheon.

Murray said, "Let’s just change gears entirely and talk about the bait and switch that the president pulled when it came to immigration yesterday. He had this meeting with the anchors, he talked about a path to legal status."

She continued, “Basically they fed us things that they thought these anchors would like, that they thought would give them positive press coverage for the next few hours. A senior administration official admitted that it was a misdirection play. And you will note that when the president was actually out there speaking to the American public, he didn’t talk about a path to legal status."

Browser-Based "Legend of Galactic Heroes" Game Bids Farewell to Players

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

I had no idea what the context for these images were when I first saw them

DMM Games, the creators of Kantai Collection and Touken Ranbu, have announced on Twitter that as of today, their Legend of Galactic Heroes browser game is no more.

Legend of Galactic Heroes Tactics launched in January 2016, allowing players to join either the Free Planets Alliance or the Galactic Empire and engage in turn-based warfare using iconic ships from the game. As with all such games, LoGH Tactics also had its share of seasonal campaigns, including some new art for fans of the vintage series.

While the game may no longer be playable, you can still peruse the site and check out the art and mechanical designs that were featured in the browser-based game.

DMM said little about the closing, only giving their thanks to players for their patronage and encouraging them to look forward to future titles.

Jon Stewart Tells Journos To Take Up New Hobby, 'Journalism'

by Frances Langum

Jon Stewart is back! (and this video is not work safe.)

For a hot minute, just to let us know that journalists under Trump might want to take up a new hobby. He calls it "journalism."

"Trump lies more in one press conference than CNN does in a year, and this is coming from a guy, who as you know, hates CNN."

Stewart then does a lightning round of Trump's lies, starting with: "I am the least antisemitic person that you have ever seen in your entire life."

Stewart scoffs: "He said that to a guy wearing a yarmulke. Donald, you're not even the least antisemitic person in the clip we showed."

And then he points out that the words "believe me" are the constant "tell" that Trump is lying.

And he doesn't let cable news off the hook:

"Hey media, so I heard Donald Trump broke up with you," Stewart says to the camera. "It stings a little doesn't it? You finally thought you'd met your match, a blabbermouth who's as thin-skinned and narcissistic as you are."

"Well, now it's over. Well, good riddance I say. Kick him to the curb."

"It is time for you to get your groove back media, 'cause let's face facts, you kind of let yourself go a little bit... obsessing 24-hours a day, seven days a week about this one guy. 'What's Donny up to? Did he say anything about us? Do you think he's gonna come on our show?"... And the whole time you're chasing after Donny, the rest of us are thinking, 'Can't you see he's an as*hole?'"

Akitaro Daichi works best when the show isn't 25 minutes long

Did you know that the manga versions of Berserk and Ninja Girl & Samurai Master share a magazine? An early look at this year's March 10 issue of the twice-monthly (out in stores February 24th) has shown the anime adaptation of the Naoki Shigeno manga, also known as Nobunaga no Shinobi, will continue this spring.

Akitarō Daichi (DD Fist of the North Star, Poyopoyo, Fruits Basket) and TMS Entertainment's anime shorts adapt the gag manga recounting Sengoku history from the perspective of warlord Oda Nobunaga's cute, young ninja.

"In This Corner Of The World" To Receive US Screenings In September

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

A new report filed by Japan's Cinema Today has confirmed that Sunao Katabuchi's crowdfunded feature film adaptation of In This Corner Of The World will be screened in the US starting in September following massive success in Japan with 2 billion yen in gross revenue from 1.5 million ticket sales. The report also confirmed that Shout Factory will handle distribution for the planned US screening campaign.

In This Corner Of The World was first revealed in 2012 as the first feature film project by Sunao Katabuchi, and he also undertook a crowdfunding campaign to finance the film's production beginning in 2015, which became one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns in Japan with 39 million yen raised from 3,349 contributors. The film is adapted from the manga of the same name by Fumiyo Kono and is also notable for the extensive research undertaken by Katabuchi prior to the film's production to ensure a faithful adaptation.

Trump's 'Terrorism Isn't Covered' Ruse Is Old Breitbart Trick

by Frances Langum
Darylsurat

And yet, it continues to work every single time

So the White House makes a ridiculous claim:

"The Media doesn't cover terror attacks."

The media scrambles to prove that they DO cover terror attacks including pulling footage...of them covering terror attacks.

And the public sees more coverage of, and this is important, the terror attacks that the White House has listed (all Islamic terror, no domestic white male shooters because that's not the agenda.).

And the White House wins. "See? America's in the crosshairs of radical Islamic terror (tm)!"

And the LIE the White House told about the news coverage goes right down the memory hole because the White House is now on to the next outrageous lie.

Don Lemon addressed the president directly, because apparently you CAN talk to Trump if you are on television.

DON LEMON: If you are tuning in, Mr. President to CNN international, you will get those stories as well. We don't just cover stories that happen here in the United States.

GLORIA BORGER: Don, I think what also happened here, you had a president who spoke and then you had a White House staff that had to be the shovel brigade and had to say this is what the president --

Wisconsin Republicans have decided to ignore what usually happens in midterm elections and go all in in trying to defeat U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin in 2018. They have already started to attack and smear Baldwin at every turn.

Going along with that, and kissing up to Trump, Scott Walker went after Baldwin to try to force her to vote for Trump's nomination for SCOTUS, Neil Gorsuch:

Baldwin, who has already come out to say she won't vote for Grosuch, was having none of it and leveled Walker with one tweet:

Shout! Factory and Animatsu Entertainment Announce "In This Corner Of the World" Anime Movie Distribution Deal

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Shout! Factory, a multi-platform media company, and Animatsu Entertainment, a London-based producer, licensor and distributor of anime in the UK and Ireland, have entered into an exclusive film deal to distribute the new animated feature In This Corner Of The World in North America. This includes theatrical, video on-demand, digital, broadcast and home entertainment for cross-platform releases in U.S. and Canada. Rollout starts with a North American theatrical launch this summer.

The adaptation of the story of an ordinary family living in Kure-city, Hiroshima Prefecture, where the US dropped an atomic bomb in World War II, was produced thanks to a record-breaking crowd funding campaign that raised 181 percent of its 20 million yen goal.

The anime film is written/directed by Sunao Katabuchi (Black LagoonMai Mai Miracle). MAPPA (Terror in ResonancePunchline) works on anime production, while GENCO (Nodame CantabileSword Art Online) produces the whole project.

The announcement describes the movie

The award-winning story of IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD follows a young lady named Suzu Urano, who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure in Hiroshima to live with her husband’s family. Suzu’s life is thrown into chaos when her town is bombed during World War II. Her perseverance and courage underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country. This beautiful yet poignant tale shows that even in the face of adversity and loss, people can come together and rebuild their lives.

Based on the award-winning manga by Fumiyo Kouno, the film is written and directed by Sunao Katabuchi. Director Katabuchi began his career working closely with Hayao Miyazaki before directing his own animated films, including the acclaimed animated features Mai Mai Miracle and Princess Arete. Produced by GENCO and Japanese animation studio MAPPA, IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD, bolstered by emotionally resonant storytelling and exquisite hand-drawn animation, is an empowering coming-of-age tale that captures the resilience and triumph of the human spirit. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Animatsu Entertainment’s Chief Operating Officer, Jerome Mazandarani.

“Shout! Factory is a fantastic partner for this film. We were incredibly impressed by their work on Long Way North, and have been fans of their commitment to content curation and serious film and television fans in North America for a long time,” said Jerome Mazandarani, COO of Animatsu Entertainment. “It’s been clear throughout our discussions with the team that we couldn’t find a more committed and passionate company to handle this beautifully delicate film.”

“This truly is a unique and exquisite film, one which only comes around once every few decades, and we are incredibly proud to be involved with it. Unique films deserve unique partners and Shout! Factory are an absolute perfect match given their passion, expertise and back catalogue of releases.” said Andrew Hewson, Head of Acquisitions & Marketing at Animatsu Entertainment. “It will be a genuine pleasure to work closely with them to bring this masterpiece to North American audiences!"

Fans Rank Worst Live-Action Adaptations

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com
Darylsurat

Ranking objections aside, notice the commonality here is that they all at least LOOK the part more or less (except for Gatchaman) since I don't think they really think these things through beyond that.

There's been a recent spike in live-action adaptations of anime and manga old and new -- but how do the finished products hold up against fan opinion? Goo Ranking asked its readers to vote for the worst anime and manga adaptations, and the results include not only some very new titles, but also some very popular ones. You can see the full listing over at Goo Ranking, but we'll count down the top (bottom?) ten for you here:

10. Wolf Girl and Black Prince (142 vote)

9. Your Lie in April (163 votes)

8. Gatchaman (185 votes)

7. Devilman (192 votes)

6. Space Battleship Yamato (200 votes)

5. Terra Formars (353 votes)

4. KochiKame the Movie (373 votes)

3. Lupin III (396 votes)

2. Black Butler (419 votes)

And the worst of the worst, leading the runner up by more than 200 votes...

1. Attack on Titan (623 votes)

The full list also includes votes for Death Note, Cutie Honey Tears, and Thermae Romae.

Trump Signs Executive Orders Reversing Dakota And Keystone Pipeline Decisions

Originally posted at Burningbird

Trump has signed executive orders reversing President Obama's administration's decisions on both the Keystone and the Dakota pipelines.

The Dakota pipeline is currently under review by the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement on the route and alternatives. Trump can't just upend this effort with an executive order—not without Earth Justice or other environmental organization easily being able to get an injunction against the order in court. I expect a court challenge against this executive order within a day

Unfortunately, Obama's Keystone Pipeline decision could be more easily undone. The original State Department review of the Pipeline didn't find it to be an environmental risk. Later, State found that the Pipeline would run counter to the US efforts to combat climate challenge, but this finding was based on cheap oil. Once the price of oil rises, to $65.00 a barrel or more, than this decision would no longer be considered viable. We could challenge a Keystone decision in court, but have less chance of success.

Russia No Longer Denies Vast Olympic Doping Conspiracy

by Karoli Kuns
Darylsurat

It was carried out by KGB/GRU who was just involved with the DNC hack overseen by our leader, but we assure you, our leader who is former KGB had no knowledge of THIS

In December, a report dropped alleging that Russia had engaged in a massive doping conspiracy during the 2014 Sochi Olympics. When it was rolled out, World Anti-Doping Agency investigator said, "For years, international sports competitions have unknowingly been hijacked by Russians. Coaches and athletes have been playing on an uneven field. Sports fans and spectators have been deceived."

McLaren went on to describe the program as "a cover-up that evolved over the years from uncontrolled chaos to an institutionalized and disciplined medal-winning strategy and conspiracy."

At the time and throughout the investigation, Russia denied all allegations, dismissing them outright. But now it seems they're ready to concede the point, according to a New York Times report.

Over several days of interviews here with The New York Times, the Russian officials said they no longer disputed a damning set of facts that detailed a doping program with few, if any, historical precedents.

“It was an institutional conspiracy,” Anna Antseliovich, the acting director general of Russia’s national antidoping agency, said of years’ worth of cheating schemes.

"Drifters" Celebrates A Warm Christmas With Friends

Of course the Black King would celebrate Christmas, IT'S HIS BIRTHDAY

While Drifters has been riding the excitement of the anime's conclusion and hyping the December 30th release of its Blu-ray box set, it took a moment on December 25th to ponder if Christmas is celebrated on other worlds. These musing were accompanied by some goofy art of a warm holiday gathering of sorts.

"UFO Senshi Dai Apolon" Scores a Touchdown with 40th Anniversary Plans

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

UFO Senshi Dai Apolon, a mecha TV anime with an American football theme, is gearing up to celebrate its 40th anniversary with new toy lines and more. The series originally ran for 47 episodes on Tokyo Broadcasting System from April 06, 1976 - August 24, 1977.

The current plans include a line of special edition reproductions of the original Dai Apolon robot toys by Bullmark, in TV colors, gold, and black. These toys are 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) in height and retail for 20,000 yen ($170.50 US) plus tax. These toys will be available for pre-order on January 10, 2017, with the final product shipping in February of 2017.

A die-cast combining Dai Apolon toy is also being planned. This 20 centimeter (7.8 inch) tall toy allows hobbyists to combine the Header, Legger, and Trunk robots into the super robot, Dai Apolon. The toy will be made of ABS with magnesium joints for increased durability, and the first print run will include a UFO Fighter toy as a bonus. The price for this toy is still to-be-determined, and they're currently aiming for a Summer 2017 release.

UFO Senshi Dai Apolon is directed by Tatsuo Ono and features animation by Eiken. The story follows a 16 year old boy named Takeshi who discovers he is secretly the heir to a vanquished alien empire. Takeshi acquires strange energy powers that allow him and his friends to pilot the Dai Apolon and oppose the evil General Dazaan, the destroyer of the Planet Apolon.

The official website for UFO Senshi Dai Apolon indicates that additional plans for the shows 40th anniversary are also in the works. What these plans entail will be revealed at a later date.

BREAKING: Russia Also Tilted Key Congressional Races

by Karoli Kuns
BREAKING: Russia Also Tilted Key Congressional Races

Thanks to the media and conservative political bloggers, the Russian hack of the DCCC affected the outcome of key Congressional races, too, according to a new report by the New York Times.

But there was never anything quite like the 2016 election campaign, when a handful of Democratic House candidates became targets of a Russian influence operation that made thousands of pages of documents stolen by hackers from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Washington available to Florida reporters and bloggers.

“It was like I was standing out there naked,” said Annette Taddeo, a Democrat who lost her primary race after secret campaign documents were made public. “I just can’t describe it any other way. Our entire internal strategy plan was made public, and suddenly all this material was out there and could be used against me.”

It didn't actually break through all the noise to the surface, but the damage was done because of a cooperative news media and local bloggers, who teamed up with Russia to do harm to Democratic candidates. There were no similar efforts against Republican candidates for the House.

The intrusions in House races in states including Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Ohio, Illinois, New Mexico and North Carolina can be traced to tens of thousands of pages of documents taken from the D.C.C.C., which shares a Capitol Hill office building with the Democratic National Committee.

Gunman At DC Pizza Parlor Was 'Investigating' Right-Wing Conspiracy 'Pizzagate' Lie

Gunman At DC Pizza Parlor Was 'Investigating' Right-Wing Conspiracy 'Pizzagate' Lie

On Sunday, a man with a rifle showed up at a Washington, DC pizza restaurant, threatening one employee before shooting his gun into the floor a couple of times.

It turns out he believed the lies perpetuated on Reddit and Alex Jones' site about "Pizzagate", as echoed by National Security Adviser-to-be Michael Flynn about the restaurant. According to their lies, it was really a front for a child sex-trafficking ring run by Hillary Clinton and John Podesta.

And this guy, Edgar Maddison Welch, believed it. He believed it so much, this happened:

A North Carolina man was arrested Sunday after he walked into a popular pizza restaurant in Northwest Washington carrying an assault rifle and fired one or more shots, D.C. police said. The man told police he had come to the restaurant to “self-investigate” a false election-related conspiracy theory involving Hillary Clinton that spread online during her presidential campaign.

The incident caused panic, with several businesses going into lockdown as police swarmed the neighborhood after receiving the call shortly before 3 p.m.
