Roger Ailes Is Replaced By Ailes 2.0

by Sarah P

Roger Ailes Is Replaced By Ailes 2.0

When Roger Ailes history of sexual harassment came to light just a few short weeks ago, the media world was stunned. Yes, there had been rumors, but nothing concrete. Response was fast and furious as dozens of women lined up to share their stories, some going back decades. Under intense pressure from the public, Roger Ailes was forced out of Fox News and Rupert Murdoch was on the hunt for his replacement.

After decades of a white perverted old man running the show, Murdoch should have known to find a woman or at least an outsider to come in and clean up Ailes' mess. But hey, why do that when you can promote a few of Ailes' own minions?

Author of the Ailes tell-all "The Loudest Voice in the Room," Gabriel Sherman, writes in NY Magazine that Murdoch divided Ailes’s job into two "co-President" positions. CEO Jack Abernethy will be in charge of the business side while Bill Shine will oversee content and talent. Both men have been with Fox News under the direction of Roger Ailes for at least 20 years.

Fareed Zakaria Explains In Detail Why He Considers Trump A 'Bullshit Artist'

by Karoli Kuns
Fareed Zakaria explained in detail, with examples, all of the reasons he called Donald Trump a bullshit artist. From the transcript: But first here's my take. Earlier this week I was asked on CNN to make sense of one more case in which Donald Trump had said something demonstrably false and then explain it away with a caustic tweet and an indignant interview. I replied that there was a pattern here and a term for a person who did this kind of thing. A bullshit artist. I was not using that label casually and in case you have sensitive ears I'm going to use it a few more times. Trump is many things, some of them dark and dangerous, but at his core, he is BS artist. Harry Frankfurt, an eminent moral philosopher, wrote a brilliant essay in 1986 called "On Bullshit." Frankfurt himself wrote about Trump in this vein in "TIME" as have Jeet Heer and Eldar Sarajlic. Frankfurt distinguishes crucially between lies and BS. "Telling a lie is an act with a sharp focus. It is designed to insert a particular falsehood at a specific point. In order to invent a lie at all, the teller of a lie must think he knows what is true. But someone engaging in BS," Frankfurt explains, "is neither on the side of the true nor on the side of the false, his eyes not on the facts at all."

Another Trump Brand Goes Down In Flames: Atlantic City Taj Mahal To Close After Labor Day

by Sarah P
Another Trump Brand Goes Down In Flames: Atlantic City Taj Mahal To Close After Labor Day

Add the Trump Taj Mahal to the long list of Trump brands that have unexpectadly closed or gone bankrupt, leaving employees in the lurch with no jobs, no benefits and no salaries. Trump screams that there are no jobs in America and he is bringing them back. While complaining that companies outsource their jobs overseas, he is also actively hiring foreign workers at his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida.

Yes, this casino isn't "technically" Donald Trump's problem anymore as of 6 months ago, but it was for 25 years and he nearly drove it into the ground. It still retains his name and much of the staff has stuck around since well before it changed ownership.

Press of Atlantic City reports that Trump's Taj Mahal casino and hotel is set to close after Labor Day weekend. Whoops. I guess we can just add this to the long list of Trump branded items that have gone under, including steak, water, airlines, etc.

Trump has not owned the hotel since it went into bankruptcy back in 2014. He sold it to his good friend, Carl Icahn. But the casino has always retained Trump's branding and logo, which apparently is not carrying as much weight lately.

Lord Bison Demands That You Read "High Score Girl" Manga

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

High Score Girl, Rensuke Oshikiri's manga about adolescent fighting-game players in the early '90s, has returned to Big Gangan magazine. Timed for the resumption, volume six and new "Continue" editions of the first volumes, with bonus content, are out today. All of this is promoted in a commercial featuring a voice that should be familiar to gamers who listen to the Japanese dialog.

Last August, a settlement was announced between Square Enix and SNK Playmore in the case of Rensuke Oshikiri's acclaimed Hi Score Girl manga. Square Enix announced that, after agreeing to pursue collaborative opportunities, SNK Playmore will drop their criminal complaint, withdraw civil complaints and allow continued sale and publication of the series.

After SNK filed a copyright infringement suit in May 2014 against Square Enix for the alleged infringement of its intellectiual property by featuring its characters in the Hi-Score Girl manga without its permission, Square-Enix publicly fired back with its own countersuit against SNK to defend itself against the allegations, which led to a raid by Osaka law enforcement on all Square Enix operated properties in order to gather evidence for the infringement allegations in August of the year.

As a result of the raids and initial litigation, Square-Enix was forced to halt publishing many publications related to Hi-Score Girl until the litigation had run its course and the company had cooperated with law enforcement in good faith.

The series, set in 1991, is about a boy who seems to have nothing going for him, who lives for video games, and who then has that crutch removed when a rich, popular girl shows up at the arcade and destroys him in Street Fighter II. It came in at number two on the 2013 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Top 20 Manga for Male Readers survey, and was nominated for the 6th Manga Taishō and the 17th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

An anime adaptation was announced in 2013.

Kotobukiya Previews Bishoujo Squirrel Girl And R. Mika - And Introduces Some Manservice With Upcoming Ikeman Figures

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com
Darylsurat

I assume this will be met with a conflicted response by the geek monoculture media since the current Squirrel Girl comic has her character design "plus sized" and Dick isn't suggestively clutching an escrima stick

For this weekend's San Diego Comic Con, figures maker/distributor Kotobukiya is preparing to present a look at art for Marvel Comics' popular comedy heroine Bishoujo Squirrel Girl, as redesigned for their Bishoujo line by Shunya Yamashita. She's joined by a look at Yamashita's take on Street Fighter's R. Mika.

And, here come the dudes!. A new Ikemen (handsome) series kicks off with DC Comics' Bat Family, first presented by Dick "Nightwing" Grayson.

"One Piece" Creator Comments On How Close Manga Is To Completion

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Get ready for some Manga Math! I was a couple credits away from a Regular Math minor, so, even if I haven't used any in years, this might be correct. One Piece started on July 19, 1997. (happy 19th anniversary!)

According to the new issue of promo newspaper Dai One Piece Shinbun, Eiichiro Oda has pinned the series at currently 65% complete. So, assuming that it's going at an approximately constant pace (which isn't consistent past comments, but bear with me), it's going to take another 13 years to wrap up the series, for a total of 32 years. So, if you started reading One Piece at age 13, you'll be 45 when it's over and you might have your own 13-year-old reading it.

Now, assuming you're not subject to the Otaku Expiration Date, how old will you be when the series wraps up?

"Bikini Warriors" Teases Major Announcement on Bikini Day

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com
Darylsurat

Remember that time Rei Hiroe was forbidden to answer questions about his Hunter design from Bikini Warriors or acknowledge that the series Wild 7 existed because T-THAT'S NOT A SHUEISHA PROPERTY, DON'T YOU REALIZE HE'S HERE AT ANIMENEXT COURTESY OF SHUEISHA

Although it was initially lost in the shuffle during Crunchyroll's coverage of "Bikini Day", we're now happy to report that bikini-themed fantasy / ecchi anime Bikini Warriors was getting in the spirit of things on July 05, 2016, by teasing a major announcement to follow later.

The major announcement will be published on July 24, 2016, at the Wonder Festival 2016 (Summer) toy fair at Makuhari Messe convention center in Mihama Ward, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It will also be published in the September issue of Monthly Hobby Japan magazine, which will be released on July 25, 2016. Could more Bikini Warriors anime be on the way?

The 2015 Bikini Warriors TV anime is directed by Naoyuki Kuzuya and features animation by feel.. It is licensed and distributed by Funimation, who describe the series as follows:

"Prepare yourself for an adventure of epic proportions. With warriors so skilled at battling questionable slimes and taming tumescent tentacles, there’s no need for all that bulky armor.

Brought to you by some of the masters of the female form, Bikini Warriors features character designs by Rei Hiroe (Black Lagoon), Tony Taka, Odanon (Queen’s Blade), and Hisasi. All your favorite RPG classes beginning with the athletic Fighter, elegant Paladin, and enchanting Mage—are busting the min/max barriers for maximum blood loss! Are you equipped?

Unsheathe your sword and prepare for battle!"

Don’t let the term “robo” fool you: Giant Robo is closer in spirit to the heroic wuxia tales of classic Chinese literature than to something like Mobile Suit Gundam. Yes, it's bad Comico Star Blazers comics. I know some of the people involved knew their Star Blazers, yet they managed to kludge it up pretty badly. The first series was published in 1987 and had weird Phil Foglio/Doug Rice art, and a convoluted story that read like bad fanfic, and the second one was from 1989 and had even weirder art and that's what we're making fun of here.

FUN FACT: I have a letter published in one of these comics, pimping the EDC. That's what kind of nerd I was back then.
