We first wrote about Caillard and Persani’s hipster sculptures over a year ago, and since the new works by this duo are just as hilarious, we couldn’t let them go unnoticed!

Whatever they say about not judging a book by its cover, we still do it. French photographer Léo Caillard and art director Alexis Persani illustrate that with their Street Stone photography series, were they dress ancient Louvre’s sculptures into something more trendy and up-to-date. Besides marrying two completely different worlds, the artists also demonstrate a great cultural change that the society has undergone throughout centuries, since the original sculptures were created.

To create these photo manipulations, Caillard first photographed the sculptures and then had his friends strike similar poses, wearing such hipster accessories like the Ray Ban shades, flannel and denim shirts and shorts. He would then dress the sculptures using Photoshop as well as Persani’s retouching skills.

The results are not only hilarious, but also show that clothes have an enormous impact on the way one is perceived.

What may look like a series of surreal photo-manipulations, actually has little to do with Photoshop! Moscow-based physician Leonid Tishkov has been traveling around the world with a private moon for over ten years now. A lamp installation, which he originally created for a festival of contemporary art, quickly found its way to Leonid’s home and the two haven’t parted since. Leonid calls this project a “performance of a lifetime”, with the moon revealing more and more spaces to him as the time goes.

“The moon is a shining point that brings people together from different countries, of different nationalities and cultures. And everyone who gets in its orbit does not forget it ever. It gives fairytale and poetry in our prosy and mercantile world,” says Leonid, making it clear just how much his Private Moon means to him.

Finding her place in the most unexpected settings, the moon has been shot by different photographers. Leonid often relates his performance to poetry: “Poetry is born in the image. Before placing a Private moon in a place that I like, I look at it for a very long time. Often this is the place that I see as the basis of the poem. The world is beautiful around us, you just lluminate it with the light of poetry! Economist by profession and photographer by calling, Andy Prokh takes charming black-and-white photos of his 4-year-old daughter and their cat. He’s been capturing the beautiful friendship ever since his offspring Katherine was born. At that time the pet was already two years old, so Katherine has spent her entire life with LiLu Blue Royal Lada. The British Shorthair seems to enjoy playing with the girl as much as she does.

Looks like the couple have a lot in common and complete each other. You can tell that Katherine and LiLu relish the arts, science and education: while the cat is more of a gentle and artistic soul that likes to paint and enjoys music, Katherine is more of a tutor and leader. So different and at the same time so similar, the two friends define how a friendship should grow and be. Here’s a rush of good emotions for the weekend!

Germany-based photographer Martin Rietze gets himself into life-threatening situations to make some amazing shots of volcano eruptions with lighting. Surrounded by poisonous gas and bubbling lava, he photographed the Sakurajima volcano in Japan, and NASA chose his shot as the Astronomy Picture of the Day for March 11, 2013. The winning shot was taken in January.

Even though lightnings occur every 40 seconds somewhere around the world, even NASA is not entirely sure what causes lightning when the volcano erupts:

“One hypothesis holds that catapulting magma bubbles or volcanic ash are themselves electrically charged, and by their motion create these separated areas. Other volcanic lightning episodes may be facilitated by charge-inducing collisions in volcanic dust.”

Even if you’re not much into physics, you’ll enjoy these amazing volcano lightning shots!
