There were dragons. There were Lannisters. There were Starks. And there was blood

Just kidding. There wasn't blood — but there was a red carpet

The cast, including Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Jack Gleeson (Joffrey Baratheon) — almost unrecognizable in his clean clothes — proved that even the Houses of Westeros can get along for one night without stabbing one another in the back Read more...

U.S. Navy's Robot Firefighters Prepare for a Test Run

by Colin Daileda

Feed-twFeed-fb

A former United States naval vessel will be set on fire this August, and the Navy will send robots to put out the blaze.

The Navy is testing robots that will put out fires instead of having sailors do the job. The humanoids may be tasked with dousing fires aboard naval vessels full-time within a few years, experts within the Navy told Mashable. But before that happens, the machines will have to pass a test in August at Mobile Bay, Ala., aboard a decommissioned vessel dedicated to firefighting exercises, the ex-USS Shadwell. This will mark the first time the bots have practiced on a ship.

Mattress Saves Cyclist Struck by Vehicle

by Brian Koerber

It sounds like something out of a Looney Tunes skit.

A cyclist riding along the shoulder of a rode is sideswiped by an improperly secured mattress that fell off a truck. The flying bed ended up providing the biker with a safe and squishy landing pad, leaving him both confused and comfortable.

ezgif-save (22)

The video, which appears to be filmed in a Spanish-speaking country from a security camera, provides little information. However, the cyclist seems to be in good shape, and is able to walk away from the accident. The time-stamp on the footage reveals the accident took place on March 17, 2014 Read more...

It's Been Exactly 29 Years Since Earth Had a Colder-Than-Average Month

by Andrew Freedman

It's been exactly 29 years — or 348 consecutive months — since the last cooler-than-average month on this planet, according to new data released on Wednesday morning. The data, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), reflects the warming trend seen around the world during the past century, which scientists blame largely on the increasing amounts of manmade greenhouse gases in the atmosphere

The last cooler-than-average month (based on a 1961 to 1990 average) on a global level was February of 1985, the year the first version of Microsoft Windows was released and the first Back to the Future film hit theaters Read more...

Moto 360 to feature 'secret' charging method

by Jerry Hildenbrand

During today’s Moto 360 Hangout-on-Air, the subject of charging came up. With no visible USB connection on the 360 body, many smartwatch fans — and potential new smartwatch fans — were wondering just how we will charge the thing.

Turns out it's a secret for now.

We can take that as some manner of kinetic charging, or wireless, or something we haven't seen before. Whatever it is, we hope it doesn't require a giant dock of some sort. We'll know more soon, we imagine.
