Flying Triangle Captured Over Kansas, Might Be Classified SR-72

A new photo of a mysterious flying triangle over Kansas has surfaced, and it appears to be the same aircraft as one that was snapped soaring over Texas last month. The exact identify of the aircraft remains a mystery, but some say that it's the rumored SR-72. There is another theory by The Aviationist, who speculates that the plane could be a RQ-180 stealth drone or a prototype of America's next generation long range strike bomber (LSRB). Video Shows Why You Shouldn't Speed in London with a Lamborghini Avetandor

Just picked up your shiny (or flat) Lamborghini Aventador and want to show it off in London? Well, one thing you should never do is drive even slightly faster than normal down the city's narrow streets, or else you may end up with an airborne supercar, like this unlucky fellow. Sure, the Aventador may have had the right of way, but turning a few heads definitely isn't worth the risk, as you're about to see.

Flying high above the ground with a GoPro-equipped drone will give you the best seats in the house — hands down — during a fireworks show.

A remote-controlled quadcopter outfitted with a GoPro camera captured the footage, above, in Fillmore, Calif. It's a new way to enjoy the dazzling light shows without actually putting yourself at risk

The footage, presented in dramatic slow-mo, of course, shows the beauty of fireworks from the air versus from the ground

While we're all excited for Android Wear in general, Motorola's Moto 360 has really been the product on everyone's minds since the announcement. Of course, LG has its own thing a-brewin' with the G Watch – while not quite as exciting as the 360 (because round and other reasons), it's still shaping up to be an interesting offering for those who may prefer a square watch face. Today, the company has launched a teaser site of sorts for the G Watch, which reveals some info that we didn't know about it before.

The movie is the second part of the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. The sequel picks up after the events of the first movie in which vikings and dragons unite on Berk Island.

"Dragons used to be a bit of a problem, but that was five years ago," Hiccup, the film's main character, explains in the opening scenes. "Now they've all moved in, and really, why wouldn't they? This Year May Be the Slowest Start to the U.S. Tornado Season, Ever

by Andrew Freedman
4_21_14_andrew_tornadotown
Feed-twFeed-fb

This year has had one of the slowest starts to tornado season since reliable records began in the early 1950s, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In addition, the year has featured one of the longest stretches of time since Jan. 1 without a tornado-related fatality.

The quiet start to the year is no guarantee that the rest of the season will be quiet, especially considering that tornado season typically peaks in May and June. It is a function of the weather pattern that has dominated the lower 48 states since the fall, with a deep dip, or trough, in the jet stream across the Midwest and East, and a ridge of high pressure off the West Coast. The trough brought colder than usual temperatures and above-average snowfall to the East, while the ridge kept the West warmer and drier than average. Read more...

HTC said to be responsible for upcoming 8-inch Nexus tablet, could be Google’s last one

by Quentyn Kennemer

nexus 8

Google and HTC haven’t exactly been BFFs in the Nexus world, with their only device — the original Nexus One — being a long afterthought at this point. But the duo could be pairing up to bring the next Nexus Tablet if the latest reports by DigiTimes are to be believed.

According to them, Taiwanese component manufacturers have been receiving orders for 8-inch HTC devices that will launch under Google’s Nexus brand. It’s nothing we haven’t already heard before, though earlier rumors suggested the device would actually be 8.9 inches. We’re told to expect a third quarter launch of this device which could mean a grand unveiling at Google I/O on June 26th.

Google’s short line of 7-inch Nexus tablets have traditionally launched right around this same time, which could suggest this is less of a supplement and more of a replacement. ASUS will apparently take this break to focus on pushing their own devices. That’s said to be the exact reason HTC declined Google’s olive branch when they were first asked to make the 7-inch line a couple of years back.

This wouldn’t be HTC’s first crack at the tablet scene, with the failed HTC Flyer and the HTC Jetstream duly noted in the company’s history. HTC is already rumored to be attempting a second go at the tablet market now that they have had time to sit back and evaluate their mistakes, and a Nexus device wouldn’t be a bad way to get their feet wet again.

More troubling in this report are murmurings that this will be Google’s final Nexus tablet. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard a rumor like that, with earlier reports stating Google will eventually look to sunset the Nexus line. The stated cause? Because the Nexus tablets were only ever made to boost market penetration for Android tablets, and now that they’re beginning to beat out the iPad in sales that task is reportedly checked off as complete.

At the same time, Google’s device strategy might not end there. The company is expected to continue offering devices with stock Android through the advent of Google Play Edition phones and tablet, many of which are already available over at Google Play.

If you aren’t already educated on GPe, they are versions of popular OEM flagship devices without typical OEM customization. We wouldn’t mind such a future, though it’ll be hard to let go of the notion of getting feature-packed smartphones such as the Nexus 5 for as little as $350, or tablets like the Nexus 7 for as little as $230. Onward to Google I/O to see how this one might unfold.

28 Confirmed Dead as South Korean Ferry Goes Completely Underwater

by Stan Schroeder

The sunken South Korean ferry is now completely underwater, further reducing the chances of rescuing some of the roughly 270 people that are still missing, CNN reports. Until Friday, a part of the ship's hull was still sticking out of the water

Rescuers have managed to breach the hull and enter the second deck of the ferry which sunk off the coast of Jindo Island on Wednesday, but did not find any bodies. The operation was stopped due to rough weather conditions, and the divers had to temporarily stop the search, the Coast Guard said.

14 Gorgeous Posters to Celebrate National Park Week

Aaron Perry-Zucker first learned about the Federal Arts Project in high school. What he didn't know was how instrumental he would be in reviving its use of art to inspire tourism to the U.S. National Parks.

Along with Max Slavkin, Perry-Zucker is co-founder of the Creative Action Network (CAN), the force behind the See America project, which encourages artists to submit works that celebrate the parks. The project was a groundbreaking partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA)

While CAN is only a few years old, the NPCA was founded in 1919; NPCA's involvement gives See America a direct connection to the New Deal agency that commissioned artists in the 1930s and 1940s to illustrate the natural landscapes of the United States. Read more...

Samsung says Galaxy Note 4 will launch with a new form factor, could it look like this?

by Chris Chavez

galaxy-note 4-concept-2014

Concept image based on recently filed Samsung patent

The Samsung Galaxy S5 didn’t do much to change the Korean manufacturer’s current design language. Launching last week across the globe, we saw the same plastic build quality (we aren’t knocking it), soft touch leathery finish on the back (similar to Note devices), and chrome siding that could be seen as a throw back to the original Samsung Galaxy S. Holding the phone side by side with previous iterations, and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference.

But we’ve noticed that when Samsung does get around to changing the design for their devices, they don’t do it with their flagships, but rather with their Galaxy Note line which launches later in the year. Maybe that’s why we’re excited about the prospect of something “different” for the Galaxy Note 4, and what it could mean for future Galaxy devices down the road.

In an interview with Reuters, Yoon Han-kil,  senior vice president of Samsung’s product strategy team, talks about the company’s plans for this year. After mentioning that Samsung will be launching their first Tizen-based smartphone towards the end of Q2, he even divulged a little info on their plans for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Concerned with a “slowing high-end market,” it appears as if Samsung will look towards a new design for the next Galaxy Note iteration, this in an effort to help drive sales. According to Yoon, the next Galaxy Note will launch with a “new form factor,” though remained mum on exact details. He went on to say:

“Our ultimate goal is to make products that consumers really aspire to have. This is how we are trying to find a breakthrough in the stagnant premium market.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 patent

I guess the only question now is exactly what Samsung could be planning with the Galaxy Note 4. We’ve already seen the OEM experiment with their flexible OLED display technology with the Samsung Galaxy Taco Round. It’s entirely possible Samsung could be experimenting with implementing that into the Galaxy Note 4, in fact, we’ve already seen one possible idea Samsung has been experimenting with in a recently uncovered patent filing.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 patent

The patent shows a device that’s flat, but features curved display edges, wrapping around the sides of the device. It’s very modern looking, and unlike anything we’ve seen from Samsung in the past (and that’s a good thing). If this is what we can look forward to in the Galaxy Note 4 (or even looking ahead to the Samsung Galaxy S6), would any of you consider going #TeamSamsung for your next Android?

Facebook will soon allow you to share your location with friends but don’t worry, it’s opt-in only

by Chris Chavez

Facebook nearby_friends

It appears as if Facebook is borrowing a little idea from their rival, Google+. The social network announced today that they will soon begin broadcasting your location to your friends and family, with a new feature they’re calling “Nearby Friends.”Before you freak out, Facebook is doing its users a solid by making it opt-in only — we know how some of you value your privacy.

In order to take advantage of the new feature, you’ll need to enable the Nearby Friends option in the Facebook app, and because sharing goes both ways, you can’t keep it turned off and still expect to get notified when friends are near. Sorry, bubba. Because you’ve probably friended a good amount of acquaintances through the years, sharing can be custom tailored to specific lists you’ve set in Facebook, so you can choose to only share your location with family, or just your close friends.

facebook-nearby-friends-press-1

In Google Now-like fashion, everything is done in the background, with a notification message pinging you on your device when friends are near. Crazy ex-gfs (or current significant others) aside, you can see how this could be helpful at meeting up with friends/ family when out and about. Maybe you’re running errands and feeling like grabbing a quick bite. You notice Sally and Joe are also out, hitting them up on Facebook Messenger to see if they’d like to meetup. How convenient.

Once enabled, Facebook users can choose to share a precise location with their friends and for a set period of time. This means instead of your friends just receiving an alert that you’re nearby with a rough approximation of your distance, they’ll know exactly where to find you, pinpointing your location on a map but again, only for the set period of time you choose.

facebook-nearby-friends-press-3

When friends are traveling, you can also see city or general neighborhood they’re in. Facebook says that could be a great opportunity to recommend a place for them to eat, or in the case of a significant other, will give them ample time to throw your stuff out on the lawn should you get caught in your ex’s neck of the woods.

It’s definitely not going to be a feature for everyone, but for those that don’t mind putting their business out there when it comes to their close friends or family, it could be helpful. According to Facebook, the feature will go live in the Facebook app in the coming weeks, so be on the look out.

by Joe Fedewa

phan fav 1 weather

Exactly one week ago we posted the first part of a new feature called Phan Favs. This feature is all about asking you, the readers, about your favorite apps and games. To start things out we asked you about your favorite weather apps for Android. A lot of you came out and showed your support for your favorite apps. We received well over 250 votes spread out across dozens of apps. One app came out on top as the clear winner. Here are your top picks for best weather apps.

1. 1Weather

1weather

It’s very fitting that the app with “1″ in its name is the #1 pick. 1Weather claims to be the “most loved weather app on Google Play,” and that certainly showed in your voting. This app is the perfect combination of design and data. Most weather apps sacrifice to have just one or the other, but 1Weather provides powerful information in a beautiful package. Another plus for 1Weather is tablet support, live weather forecasts and backgrounds, and so much more. 1Weather is available for free from Google Play.

2. WeatherBug

Coming in at #2 is an app that has been around for a long time, but keeps on kicking. WeatherBug has a focus on helping you “Know Before.” With this app you can access the world’s largest network of weather and lightning sensors for the most accurate forecasts, and the fastest alerts. “Spark Alerts” can even turn your phone into a lightning detector. Download WeatherBug and always know when the weather is about to turn bad. It’s available for free from Google Play.

3. Yahoo Weather

One of the newest entries you selected is Yahoo Weather. This is one of the prettiest weather apps you’ll ever find. It’s minimal in design with simple data and full screen photos. It may seem overly simple, but there is hardcore data in this app too. You get access to radar maps, wind and pressure, daily, hourly, and weekly forecasts, and much  more. If you’re looking for a stylish weather app this is an excellent choice. It’s available for free from Google Play.

4. Google Now

Why download a weather app when your phone can tell you the forecast right out of the box? That’s what a lot of you said with your choice of Google Now. This feature comes in the Google Search app that is compatible with most of the newer Android devices. It will tell you the weather of your current location with a handy card and can be ever-present in your notification shade. Google Now can also recite the weather back to you if you ask. Download Google Search for free from the Play Store.

5. Weather Underground

The last app in our Top 5 is Weather Underground. This app is described as “community powered weather.” What does that mean? On top of the regular weather services and airports, this app uses 3,000+ personal weather stations report the most localized weather conditions. That data powers radar maps, forecasts, hazards reports, and so much more. If you like helping to crowd source data this is a great weather app to use. Like all the other apps on this list, it’s available for free from Google Play.
