The UFC Fucked Up Badly This Weekend, Says The UFC

On Saturday, the UFC held a fight card in Macau, which would in no way be notable if not for the fact that UFC figurehead Dana White, not liking the way judge Howard Hughes scored the first two bouts, actually made him stop judging during the event. Hughes didn't work any more fights for the rest of the evening.

8 Geeky Things You Won't Believe Were Made with Cardboard

Cardboard Sculpture

Those who shop online probably handle cardboard boxes on a regular basis, but in the hands of an artist, they become the incredible sculptures you see above. Whether it be Optimus Prime, Iron Man, or just a lion's head, nothing is too strange for them. On a related note, did you know that the first commercially available corrugated box was created and produced in the US in 1895? However, nearly all shipping was done in wooden crates until the early 1900's. 10 Fascinating Historical Photos You Might Not Have Seen Before

Historical Photos

It's time again for some more fascinating historical photos you might not have seen before, including a rare look at Times Square when it was still being built in 1903. As more profitable commerce and industrialization of lower Manhattan pushed homes, theaters, and prostitution northward from the Tenderloin District, Long Acre Square became nicknamed the Thieves Lair for its rollicking reputation as a low entertainment district. By the early 1890s this once sparsely settled stretch of Broadway was ablaze with electric light and thronged by crowds of middle and upper-class theatre, restaurant and cafe patrons. In 1904, New York Times publisher Adolph S. Ochs moved the newspaper's operations to a new skyscraper on 42nd Street at Longacre Square. Ochs persuaded Mayor George B. McClellan, Jr. to construct a subway station there, and the area was renamed "Times Square" on April 8, 1904. Click here to view the first image in this week's funny work pictures gallery. Austin Nonprofit Is Building 'Microhouses' for the Homeless

by TakePart

With their small size and stylish appearance, tiny houses have become a mainstay of the movement to downsize and live sustainably. Now, as a part of Community First Village, a to-be-created project in the Austin, Texas, area, the compact living solutions are about to become housing for the homeless.

The effort is the brainchild of local nonprofit Mobile Loaves & Fishes. At the end of July the project's organizers found that the tiny house structures could be popped up in about six hours. Once they're painted and given a homey touch with plants and porch chairs, the homes can be a welcoming environment that anyone would be glad to return to at the end of a long day. Read more...

Peyton Manning Penalized For Jawing At Texans DB Who Concussed Welker

In the final seconds of the first half of Texans-Broncos last night, Houston safety D.J. Swearinger hit Wes Welker with a shoulder pad/forearm shot to the helmet. Though he did so slowly, Welker did get up on his own and took himself out of the game. He immediately went to the locker room where it was determined he suffered another concussion, his third since November. In the meantime, Peyton Manning and Emmanuel Sanders hooked up for their second touchdown of the game on the very next play. Peyton chewed out Swearinger after the score, earning an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting.

Clashes broke out on Wednesday, as riot police and soldiers attempted to barricade angry residents. Days earlier, locals had raided a holding center for suspected Ebola patients, pulling out mattresses covered in blood, which could spread the disease.

The movie's plot seems to draw equally from Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and Isaac Asimov's short story Runaround, which introduces the Three Laws of robotics

In Automata, set in year 2044, robots are far more advanced than today, but they also have to follow some basic rules, one of them forbidding them to alter themselves in any way. When that rule gets broken, robots get hunted and killed, akin to the ones in Dick's famous novel Read more...
