Stevie Wonder Is Not Blind: The Truthers' Case

Earlier today, my esteemed colleague Drew Magary dropped "A Field Guide To American Truthers ," in which the Big Daddy flamboyantly summarized some of the most common conspiracies in American culture. Within minutes, of course, readers took to Kinja and Twitter to add conspiracies we left out. One in particular caught Magary's eye.

Google Cast quietly replaces Chromecast category in Google Play Store

by Chris Chavez

Google Cast Play Store DSC07130

If you jump into your Play Store app today, you might notice a small change to the Categories section (located under Apps > Categories tab). What was once the “Chromecast” category has now quietly been renamed to simply “Google Cast.” With Android TV gearing up for a launch soon, it makes perfect sense too.

The actual protocol for the forwarding of video content off to your Chromecast TV dongle is called “Google Cast” and the renaming of the category is likely in preparation for the slew of new Android devices carrying support for the streaming protocol in the future — devices that aren’t the Chromecast. You know, just in case you wondering “what gives.”

Thanks, Brian!

2 'Modern Family' Actors Crashed a Frat Party at 2:30 a.m.

by Max Knoblauch

When Modern Family costars Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet get together, insane things happen.

On Tuesday's episode of Conan, Ferguson detailed a trip the pair took to Stonestreet's alma mater, Kansas State University on Sept. 19. After hosting a panel discussion with students and doing a bit of bar hopping, Stonestreet decided it would be a good idea to visit his former fraternity house — at 2:30 a.m.

The actors then took several pictures with a pair of mostly-nude college students. Hey, two famous guys taking pictures with underage college students — what could go wrong?

Intensifying Typhoon Phanfone Heads for Japan

by Andrew Freedman

Feed-twFeed-fb

Typhoon Phanfone is gathering strength in the western Pacific Ocean, with projections showing that it may intensify significantly — likely to super typhoon status — before veering toward mainland Japan by Oct. 5

Computer-model simulations on Wednesday show that the storm will likely intensify over the next few days, while moving northwest, toward extreme southwest Japan or the open East China Sea. However, winds in the upper atmosphere should turn the storm north and then northeast, potentially making a direct hit on several Japanese islands, and scoring a direct hit on Tokyo as a Category One storm. Someone carved a Nexus 6 out of wood and compared against the Nexus 4 and 7

by Chris Chavez

xgo5Mb3

It’s probably the last thing we thought we’d see today, but after taking a look at a mockup of the Nexus 6 from the other day, one resourceful Redditor took to making his own. Out of wood. He carved a Nexus 6 out of wood. Yup.

Taking the measurements of its rumored 5.9-inch display and using the carefully crafted mockup, he was able to punch in the measurements into a DPI calculator to come up with a 73.5mm by 13.06mm display. He then printed it out, and began carving out a 3D mockup made out of wood. Excessive? A bit. But it’s also damn cool and we applaud the man for it.

Nexus 6 mockup wood 4aPuZHS

Putting it up against his Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, we get a better idea of exactly the kinda size we’re talking about here with the phone dwarfing the Nexus 4, but not coming anywhere near the gargantuan size of the Nexus 7. Seems the phone will definitely be big, but not stupid big. For one last illustration, you can see the phone in reference to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus with the Nexus 6 size calculated using the same method above. The small bezels help keep the overall size down, measuring in just a hair smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus.

What do you think? Seems this year’s Nexus could be targeting a smaller niche market of phablet enthusiasts. If so (and Google doesn’t come out of left field with a Nexus 5 2014 model), we could be passing on this year’s Nexus for the first time in forever and sticking it out with the new Moto X (2nd Gen) Pure Edition.

Google's Nexus 6 reportedly spotted engulfing the hand of its user on a bus ride

by Chuong H Nguyen

Google's highly anticipated and unannounced Nexus 6 may have been publicly spotted out in the wild. From the looks of the image captured, it appears that someone was using the large-sized phone on a public transportation commute with a protective case around it. Despite its large size with a rumored 6-inch display, it looks like the user of the phone is able to navigate around the interface singlehandedly.

The 9 Ways 'Gotham' Got Super Dark in Episode 2

You had to figure a crime procedural that (very loosely) winds back the clock on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy would be a grisly, vaguely twisted affair, even if it is on network TV.

But who could have predicted that we'd be seeing child cannibalism, eyes getting poked out, innocent people being beaten within an inch of their lives in Episode 2? What do they think this is, Game of Thrones?

How to 'hack' Tinder in under two minutes so you can browse for matches anywhere in the world

by Cage Michaels

This is how you fake the GPS Location on your phone to tell Tinder you're somewhere else!

Tinder should really be spelled T - R - O - U - B - L - E because one of these days that's what this popular dating app is going to get me into! I love Tinder. I can't help it. It's not that I'm browsing for hook-ups or dating partners or anything like that. I'm in a relationship. I'm happy. I just find it really entertaining to swipe through photos of real people. Some people spend all day looking at photos of cats. Personally, I'd rather look at photos of women. To each their own. No judging. I have a few friends who do the same thing as me, so I know I'm not totally alone in this behavior.

The trouble with Tinder of course is that in order to browse Tinder, you need to put yourself on Tinder. And with Tinder showing matches based on your preferences of sex, age and distance from your location — up to a max of 100 mile radius — it's highly possible that somebody you know will see you on Tinder. Depending on your relationship status... well... like I said... that could spell TROUBLE when you get spotted by somebody who doesn't think you should be on Tinder. For that reason, I've only ever fired up Tinder when I'm traveling and am far away from home and those odds of being recognized are minimal.

Underwater Sony Xperia Z3 uboxing shows off its killer feature [VIDEO]

by Chris Chavez

Sony Xperia Z3 underwater unboxing

Although occasionally guilty of it ourselves, we’ll admit — smartphone unboxings aren’t always the funnest videos to watch. But alas, they’re a necessary evil, meant to give you a quick first look at what you can expect when you open up x device for yourself (and we typically mix in our first impressions to keep things interesting).

Earlier today, we saw what happens when you crack open an actual Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone, exposing all the modular internals to the outside world. Now, the folks at Carphone Warehouse are giving us a more unconventional unboxing of the Z3, taking the phone deep underwater in their latest YouTube video. Given that the Xperia Z3 has an IP68 rating for water, it has absolutely no problem being submerged in 1.5 meters of water. You have to admit, that’s one killer feature.

Check out the video below and be sure to let us know what you think.

This is supposedly what the Nexus 6 looks like, and here are some of its early specs [Leak]

by Quentyn Kennemer

nexus 6 shamu render leak

We’re expecting Google to launch the next Nexus handset later this year, but to this point we haven’t been able to get a good look at the device. A leak last week showed us a purported image of the device sitting next to an LG G3, though with its back plate looking quite similar to the new Moto X we had no choice but to approach it with a degree of caution.

Today, Android Police leaks a render of what they believe the Nexus 6 could look like. The render above was created based on what they’ve reportedly seen, though you should note that it’s considered a faithful recreation and not an official press render.

The Motorola-made device apparently shares a lot of the same design characteristics as the new Moto X, though it obviously comes in a bigger package of 5.9 inches. According to the report, the device features dual front-facing speakers, a metal frame, and a camera ring flash ala the Moto X.

Some early specs include its QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440, a 13 megapixel rear shooter, a 2 megapixel front shooter and a 3,200mAh battery. The device is also said to feature Motorola’s new Turbo Charge feature which promises to deliver 8 hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging. Software is said to be Android L, something not at all farfetched considering Google typically uses the latest Nexus phones to launch the latest versions of Android.

There wasn’t much else to be had at this point, though we did also get word that there may not be a smaller Nexus handset in the works. That doesn’t sound too appealing for those who aren’t into the phablet thing, but there’s still a slight chance that a smaller handset could be introduced at some point. Would you pick this bad boy up if it turns out to be the Nexus 6?

Facebook Ads Will Follow You Around. Starting Now.

by Todd Wasserman

Feed-twFeed-fb

Good news for advertisers, but maybe not-so-great news for users concerned about their personal data: Starting Monday, Facebook will use data it gleans from users for its new ad network, Atlas, which it will serve up ads on non-Facebook sites based on what Facebook knows about you.

Atlas is a former Microsoft property that Facebook bought last year for around $100 million that Facebook has now rebuilt from the ground up. Atlas is distinct from Audience Network, a mobile ad network Facebook introduced in April that was aimed at app developers.

In contrast, Atlas is a sort of alternative to Google's AdWords, which will let advertisers follow users across the web and mobile devices. For instance, Atlas advertiser Pepsi could could use Atlas to advertise one of its products on a sports site or a game app that is unaffiliated with Facebook. Read more...

Stealth360 Android Wear Watch Face Is As Close As You Can Get To Wearing Tron On Your Wrist

by Michael Crider

unnamed (4)

Despite having some serious (and apparently isolated) issues with his unit's battery, our fearless leader Artem is thoroughly enjoying his Moto 360 smartwatch. He described the Stealth360 watch face from developer Flying Rhino as, and I quote, "sweet as hell."

unnamed

Stealth360 shies away from some of the more conventional Braun-style designs included with the Moto 360 itself, in favor of something closer to a Razer or Alienware look. (Think Tron, but with a little more restraint.) Despite hands and markers that are designed to look sleek, it's pretty functional as a standard watch, thanks to easy-to-read layout.
