LOS ANGELES — Oliver Stone's Snowden is still shooting in Germany, but an image from the top secret project has already out in the open.

OK, so it's no huge secret. This photo of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the exiled former government computer contractor who exposed the doings of the NSA was released by Open Road Films. But it's still pretty compelling.

SEE ALSO: The 10 Biggest Revelations From Edward Snowden's Leaks

The photo depicts Levitt as Snowden before his whistle-blowing days. It's almost hard to believe he was once just an anonymous guy

Snowden, which is on location in Munich but shooting all over the world, hit theaters this Christmas. Read more...

Kelly Clarkson and Jimmy Fallon should seriously record an album together

by Molly Lynch

Kelly Clarkson was summoned to Jimmy Fallon's offer to sing a duet with her — and how could she resist those velvety-smooth pipes?

The duo launched into a medley of the best duets from the past several decades, starting with Sonny and Cher's "I Got You, Babe," and running through hits like Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract" and Joe Cocker's "Up Where We Belong" before ending, of course, with "Endless Love."

The funniest part of the video comes at just about three minutes in, when Jimmy goes for a costume change and the camera lingers on Roots guitarist Captain Kirk Douglas, who struggles to keep a straight face while watching Jimmy don a leather newsboy cap and gold clip-on earrings Read more...

'Don't Stop Believing' supercut shows everybody wants a thrill at karaoke

At this point, it's highly possible that more people know the lyrics to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" than they do their own national anthem. It's for this reason that "Don't Stop Believing" makes such a popular karaoke pick, bridging the gap between raw emotion and unquestioned cheese factor

To illustrate just how effective Journey is in bringing people together, karaoke host Baby Van Beezly compiled a supercut of folks singing the rock hit at her bar. This may be the happiest these people have ever been.

The Everest of excrement is actually Mount Everest

by Brian Koerber

Nepal has a stinky situation on its hands.

Human waste left by climbers on Mount Everest has become a major problem, and is even threatening the spread of disease, Ang Tshering, the chief of Nepal's mountaineering association, said, The Associated Press reports

Everest's climbing season only lasts a measly two months, but nearly 700 climbers brave the world's tallest peak and not all of them dispose of their trash, urine and feces properly

None of Mount Everest's four base camps, which are located at 17,380 feet, have proper facilities. The camps have tents, equipment, supplies and even cooks, but no toilets. The waste is collected in a drum in a toilet tent, where it is then carried to a lower altitude and disposed Read more...

At a time when images of the world are proliferating faster than any one of us can view them, there are few things left undocumented.

But some views of the world remain off limits — except to those willing to take some risks. A video by All Points Project, a new show on the Seeker Stories YouTube channel, highlights some of the photographers who are risking arrest and even their own safety to get the perfect shot.

"Urban exploring," or seeking out lesser-seen cityscapes and structures, is not necessarily illegal. However, several of the young photographers in the video have had run-ins with law enforcement after trespassing on their quest for the perfect shot. Read more...

The X-Men, as directed by Wes Anderson

In a timeline where X-Men: First Class never happened and the mutant-based franchise was left in a state of experimental free fall, we can totally imagine Wes Anderson coming in to save the day.

The director, known for symmetrical design, quirky dialogue and themes like teen angst and abusive authority figures would have a field day with Charles Xavier's mutant strike force. This parody, by filmmaker Patrick Willems, perfectly explores what the films would be like.

Someone connect Wes and Bryan Singer so this can happen.

Rome wasn't built in a day — but Empire basically was

The soapy family drama on Fox aired Jan. 7 and has since dominated the TV landscape. The series follows a troubled music mogul, his squabbling sons and his scene-stealing ex-wife. The plot has completely shattered previous records set by other shows. On its first night, it became Fox's highest-rated series debut in three years, with 9.8 million viewers

Since then, viewership has increased — a feat that almost never occurs in the TV world. A series usually cools off after a hot debut, but Empire is burning up. For the past seven weeks, ratings have grown by the millions. Read more...

A NASA spacecraft that's nearing dwarf planet Ceres has returned new images showing the mysterious lights that have scientists scratching their heads.

The images, released in the form of a GIF on the website for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, show at least two strange lights shining brightly as Ceres rotates. They were taken from about 25,000 miles away by NASA's Dawn spacecraft on its approach to orbit around Ceres. The origin of the lights is unclear at this time, NASA officials said.

On March 6, Dawn will make history as the first mission to successfully visit a dwarf planet when it finally enters orbit around Ceres. Read more...

Apple Pay has been touted as perhaps the most-secure method of payment available. But scammers have still found a way around the platform's strong encryption and biometrics, according to a report from The Guardian

Instead of breaking Apple Pay's built-in security, identity thieves are taking advantage of lax rules for card activation from banks. In other words, crooks are loading stolen banking information on new iPhones and then using Apple Pay to purchase high-price items, according to the report

Banks are supposed to verify all cards that are loaded onto Apple Pay. But some provision card use simply by confirming the last four digits of social security numbers, for example Read more...

SanDisk was able to stuff 200GB of storage space inside their latest microSD card

by Quentyn Kennemer

SanDisk-microSD200gb-hero-blnk

You thought SanDisk’s 128GB microSD cards were insane? The company has just announced another huge milestone — a whopping 200GB of data inside a chip smaller than the size of a nickle. It’s a UHS-1 Class 10 chip, which means it can transfer data at up to 90 megabytes per second.

So why not 256GB, the natural step up from 128GB? It’s likely SanDisk was unable to physically fit enough circuitry, doodads and whatever else makes these things tick inside such a compact form factor. It’s possible that could change with refined engineering techniques in the future, but for now this is as high as it gets.

You shouldn’t bat an eyelash at 200GB. It’s absolutely insane, and it’s even crazier to know that it can work in any device that supports microSDXC cards of 64GB or higher (which includes the newly-announced HTC One M9, but unfortunately not the just-as-fresh Samsung Galaxy S6).

Of course, you’d have to be willing to spend the $400 that this thing will cost to start so if you have that sort of money to throw around on micro storage chips you’ll likely be able to afford a smartphone that can utilize it. The chips are due Q2 2015.
