Roderic O’Conor (1860-1940) | Post-Impressionist painter

Although he was born in Ireland, and attended art school in Dublin, Roderic O’Conor’s work only became more widely known in Dublin in the late 1950s.
Much of O’Conor’s career was spent in Belgium and France: after attending the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and the Royal Hibernian Academy Schools, he travelled first to the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Antwerp, and later attended the atelier of Charles Carolus-Duran🎨 in Paris.

The subject of this work is the artist’s niece, Rose-Marie Ormond, who was then fifteen. She is shown by a stream in Aosta, northern Italy. Ormond was Sargent’s travel companion and one of his favourite subjects. She features in a number of his Alpine pictures, which he painted in an impressionistic style, either in oil or watercolour. Here, Sargent captured the movement of light and shadow on the stream, yellow flowers and the fabric of Rose-Marie’s dress with thick, loosely handled paint.

Van Rysselberghe (1862 - 1926) was a founding member of the Brussels-based Neo-Impressionist group known as Les XX (sometimes written Les Vingt). The group was founded by van Rysselberghe along with Emile Verhaeren and Octave Maus in 1883, and was named after its twenty members. Van Rysselberghe played an important role in organising the group’s annual exhibitions and was considered by many to be its leading artist. His extensive connections with other painters and writers enabled him to exhibit widely and travel extensively himself.

Amisani was a close contemporary of Umberto Boccioni and of Pablo Picasso, but completely ignored currents such as Futurism and Cubism which changed the face of fine art in the 20th century, preferring to satisfy the tastes of his clients, who were the noble, rich and the famous of his time. His reputation was for elegance and for the fresh colours of his palette.

Chinese painter🎨 Weizhen Liang is a master member of American Impressionist Society and an artist member of the California Art Club.
Weizhen Liang, was born and raised in China. Her early interest in the arts focused on the written word and she received her BA degree in Chinese literature from Ji Nan University of Guang Zhou in China. Weizhen's aunt, An-Zhi Zhonng, was a well respected painter and professor at the Guang Zhou Academy of Fine Arts and she studied with her from an early age.
