Berghain After Hours

by Caroline Kurze

Whatever happens behind Berghain’s doors, stays there. Only a select few can enter and photography is strictly forbidden. Hence the exhibition Culture:City, that is taking place in Berlin until 26th of May approaches the underground club in a new way. A film by Steffen Köhn does not show everyday Berghain events but instead allows something strange and unpredictable to take over the otherwise empty rooms. They track a number of wild animals through the monumental spaces of the former power station. The viewer explores the building together with the animals and experiences its dimensions from a new, nonhuman perspective. The brutality of the industrial architecture is confronted with the beauty of these shy creatures. The pictures permit the building to retain its secrets.

You can watch the film until 26th of May at Hanseatenweg 10 in 10557 Berlin at the exhibition Culture:City. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm. Admission fee is € 8/5, entrance is free for children under 18, and on the first Sunday of the month.
