Looks Like Someone Hid a Weed Joke on Home Depot's Website
Darendukesweed!
If you’re shopping for a “garden and kitchen scale with 0.5 gram precision weighing technology,” you might be a drug dealer. And evidently some joker at Home Depot knows this. Buried in the website’s listing for such an item, there are a bunch of pictures that appear to show what appears to be a pile of weed on the…

Japanese Are Polishing Foil Balls To Perfection, And The Result Is Too Satisfying
DarendukesOk this seems really stupid but look at the final product. Holy shit! that is a shiny goddamn ball!
Aluminum foil looks pretty boring. It is used for packaging, insulation, cooking… and making really shiny balls that appear to have no real purpose, apparently. That’s right, thanks to a Japanese jeweler, the whole country became obsessed with refining these metal leaves, and we aren’t sure how to react.
According to Twitter user @puchuco709, they took a whole 16-metre (52-feet) long roll of the federal government brainwashing-blocking material and started abusing it – hammering, polishing it. After probably a gazillion repeats, the ball was finished. People instantly fell in love with this low-budget DIY project, flooding Japanese social media with their very own versions. Can you think of a use for it? Let us know in the comments!
It all starts with an aluminum foil ball like this one:

No Man’s Sky coming to Xbox One later this year
DarendukesReally wanted to play this in 2016. Then I read more about it and it seemed really lonely and boring.
Hello Games' massive procedural space exploration sim No Man's Sky will come to the Xbox One later this year, following its summer 2016 launch on the PC and PS4, the company announced this morning.
The 505 Games-published port, which will include 4K and HDR graphics support on the Xbox One X, will follow what Hello Games founder Sean Murray calls "by far our biggest update so far" to the game, called No Man's Sky NEXT. Hello Games isn't detailing what specifically will be included in the upcoming free update, due to launch this summer, save for the few screenshots shown above.
Scientists think they found a new human organ—a fluid-filled “shock absorber”
Darendukesneat
Newly identified networks of interconnected, fluid-filled chambers that line tissues throughout the human body may qualify as a completely new organ, researchers report in a study published Tuesday in Scientific Reports.
Researchers found the web-like tissue on the underside of skin, around the digestive tract, bladder, lungs, arteries, and within muscles. They speculate that the tissues—dubbed the “interstitium”—may act as “shock absorbers,” allowing our organs to swell and compress as we go about our business of breathing, eating, and living in general. The fluid it contains may also play heretofore unappreciated roles in basic biology and disease. For instance, the liquid could act as a conduit for cellular signals or harmful molecules, play a role in the development of edema (excessive fluid retention in tissues), and even help cancer cells spread.
The finding may “necessitate reconsideration of many of the normal functional activities of different organs and of disordered fluid dynamics in the setting of disease,” the authors conclude. And preliminary data “raises the possibility that direct sampling of the interstitial fluid could be a diagnostic tool,” they add.

'Alien' Mummy Found in Atacama Desert Is Actually a Tiny, Mutated Human
DarendukesHoly shit that thing was actually real? I thought it was a hoax.

Sonic's Original Backstory Took Place In World War II
DarendukesSo the story is that there was a fighter pilot that was nicknamed Sonic and had the game logo painted on his plane. And then his wife wrote a children's book that is the actual story that is in the game.

Non-Lethal Weapon: DOD seeks to use lasers to create shouting will-o-the-wisp
DarendukesOk this is fucking cool. Imagine this disembodied voice seemingly out of nowhere giving you commands.
The Department of Defense's Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Development Program (JNLWD) is closing in on a directed energy weapon that can literally tell people to go away—creating sound waves with laser pulses that can annoy, frighten, or otherwise send the message to people approaching a military unit that getting closer is not a good idea.
The Non-Lethal Laser-Induced Plasma Effect (NL-LIPE) system can be used to manipulate air molecules, creating a ball of plasma that oscillates to create sound waves with a stream of femtosecond-long laser bursts. A first laser creates the plasma ball, and a second then oscillates the plasma ball to create the sound. As Defense One's Patrick Tucker reports, the current Laser-Induced Plasma Effect implementation can only manage an indistinguishable mumble—though it can create a wide variety of very distinguishable sounds, as demonstrated in the video below.
A video of the Laser-Induced Plasma Effect in action.
David Law, JNLWD's Technology Division chief, believes that, within the next three years, the system will be able to create intelligible speech from a glowing ball of plasma hovering in the air at a distance. "We're this close to getting it to speak to us," Law told Tucker. "I need three or four more kilohertz."

US buys Afghanistan “Eliminator” attack planes—Cessnas with Hellfires
DarendukesI just love the fact that they make Cessna planes with fucking hellfire missiles on them.
The US military has fought the Taliban in Afghanistan for 16 years now, and it frequently has done so from the skies with Hellfire strikes by Predator and Reaper drones. Now the US is buying the Afghan military something with the same sort of sensors, loitering time, and firepower—except humans will have to sit in their cockpits.
The US Air Force has inked a new deal with aerospace and defense company Orbital ATK to provide seven AC-208 Eliminator attack and reconnaissance aircraft. The Eliminator is a militarized version of the Cessna 208 Caravan, the aircraft used by the FBI and various contractors to fly aerial surveillance in the US—including flights over Baltimore in 2015 after the death of Freddy Gray in police custody.
The contract for the Eliminators was originally issued last September, and part of the $86 million is coming out of fiscal-year 2017 funds. The original sole-source contract was for $69.4 million but was expanded in the award made this past week.

Stephen Hawking, legendary theoretical physicist, dies at 76
DarendukesRIP
Stephen Hawking, the British physicist and author of A Brief History of Time, has passed away at the age of 76.
"He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years," according to a statement released by his family to British media early Wednesday morning. "His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world. He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him for ever."
The Hawking family also noted that Stephen died peacefully at his home in Cambridge, England.

This Guy Continues To Paint Pop-Culture Characters Into Old Thrift-Store Paintings (New Pics)
Darendukesa few of these are pretty good
Dave Pollot (previously here and here) is a US painter who brings new life to old and forgotten art. He buys thrift store paintings and perfectly “enhances” them with pop culture symbols, giving a cool, nerdy spin to what’s dusting away inside cracked frames.
“Most are prints or lithographs,” he told Bored Panda. “Any scratches or marks are carefully touched up and then my own visions are added.” Before focusing on repurposing discarded thrift art, Dave painted more ‘serious’ architectural paintings and landscapes. Now, however, he’s completely devoted to his new passion.
“Concepts range from pop culture to dada themes. What was once destined for a landfill is now an appreciated piece of art and conversation piece.” Luckily, it’s still an ongoing series so there should be more of these to come!

Someone Used Face-Swap To Create Female Versions Of US Presidents, And People Find Obama Surprisingly Hot
DarendukesWhy did they make Teddy Roosevelt a whore?
By now, we’ve already seen baby face swaps, Disney face swaps, even tattoo face swaps. Giving US presidents such a makeover, however, is something completely new. And we didn’t think we needed it so badly until we saw it.
“It’s strange to think that these people would never have been elected president because of that pesky troll X chromosome,” redditor ygdrssl, the creator of the gallery wrote. They made it using FaceApp on their iPhone only, “Most recent presidents are represented back to 1900.”
When commenting some of the most memorable portraits, ygdrssl said, “Wilma Hannah Taft has a mustache of glory no matter what universe she is in. [And] Teddie Roosevelt is hella glam, what did you expect. She wears the best of Sephora on her national park expeditions and will give you sass if you bring it up.” Scroll down to check out what the most powerful people in the Western world would look like if they were women!
