Sarah Niles and Jonny Coyne Join the Cast of ‘Toxic Avenger’ Remake
Emahlstadtspeaking of things that don't need to be remade...
Legendary Entertainment is developing a remake of Troma’s The Toxic Avenger, with Macon Blair on board to write and direct, and we’ve got more casting news today.
THR reports that Sarah Niles (I May Destroy You, above) and Jonny Coyne (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) have signed on. “Coyne is playing a shadowy criminal figure while Niles will play a corrupt city official.” Elijah Wood, Julia Davis (Sally4Ever), Kevin Bacon, Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, and Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) will also star.
In the 1984 original, directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz…
“The Toxic Avenger is born when meek mop boy Melvin falls into a vat of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.”
Deadline details the upcoming remake, “A contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s successful 1984 low-budget action comedy hit, The Toxic Avenger is steeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool. When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.”
Macon Blair starred in the films Blue Ruin and Green Room, and he more recently wrote Netflix’s Hold the Dark and wrote/directed I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore.
Kaufman and Herz will produce the new take on Troma’s classic.
Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti Cast as the Twins in Amazon’s ‘Goodnight Mommy’ Remake
Emahlstadtthe original was solid, if a bit forgettable. but, add this to the now-endless list of shit that no on asked for and doesn't need to be "remade."
A remake of Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala’s 2014 movie Goodnight Mommy is on the way from Amazon Studios, and two of the main roles have been cast this week.
Naomi Watts, who of course starred in the excellent American remake of The Ring, recently landed the leading role, and Variety reports that Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti (“Big Little Lies”) will play the twin sons of her character. Jeremy Bobb (“The Outsider”), Crystal Lucas-Perry (Mimesis Nosferatu) and Peter Hermann (“Younger”) have landed supporting roles.
In Goodnight Mommy, “Elias and his twin brother Lukas arrive at their mother’s house to find her face covered in bandages − the result, she explains, of recent cosmetic surgery. Lukas delights in their mother’s uncharacteristically lax house rules, but in Elias’ mind, a dreadful thought takes root: the sinking suspicion that this woman beneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn’t really their mother.”
Kyle Warren wrote the new script, with Matt Sobel (Take Me To The River) directing.
Watts will also executive produce the English-language remake of the Austrian film. Original filmmakers Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz are also on board as executive producers.
5* running back Rueben Owens decommits from the Longhorns
Emahlstadtbummer.
honestly i feel like i'm in the twilight of my texas football fandom. it's been a rough decade+. i'll always root for the horns, i guess, but my days of really giving a shit are probably close to over, i'm sad to say.
hate to be all fair-weather about it, but if, against all odds, someone is able to overcome the apparently toxic room of big-money-donors that has owned this teams balls since forever and get some meaningful wins to move the team back to any type of relevance i could always have renewed interest, but we all know better than to expect that at this point.
too bad, so sad, and all that.
The lone member of the 2023 class has reopened his recruitment.
After committing to the Texas Longhorns in February, five-star running back Rueben Owens announced via Twitter Thursday that he was reopening his recruitment as he continues to take visits.
Thanks for everything Hook Em nation, recruiting 100% open. #Faith pic.twitter.com/fPup7VPWHr
— Rueben Owens ll #4soCr4zy (@ii_rueben) June 17, 2021
Owens was on campus as a part of the big 2023 visit weekend, spending time with the coaching staff and other high-priority Texas targets - including five-star quarterback Arch Manning. The weekend prior to visiting Texas, Owens was in Tuscaloosa visiting the Alabama Crimson Tide, after receiving an offer from the National Champion in April.
Texas now sits without a commitment in the 2023 class, as they get their first opportunities to host recruits on campus after the COVID dead period was lifted at the start of June.

Emahlstadtwhat a legend.
Over the past year of hibernation, many viewers have rediscovered the joy of watching Columbo. The show was also popular in the time of its…

Emahlstadtman, i feel bad for george lopez's daughter, for so, so, many reasons.
George Lopez is returning to television, and he’s making it a family affair. Lopez will star alongside his daughter Mayan Lopez in Lopez V. How Robert Kirkman made the Invincible finale an emotional heavy hitter
Emahlstadtjust another reminder that robert kirkman is an embarrassingly bad writer and, in general, the absolute worst.
Amazon Prime Video’s star-studded, animated superhero drama Invincible wrapped season one with a heartbreaking and frenzied fight between its two lead superheroes: the father-son duo of Nolan Grayson, a.k.a Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) and Mark Grayson, a.k.a. Invincible (Steven Yeun). The finale, titled “Where I Really…
Netflix's Sweet Tooth trailer invites us into the adventurous world of the DC comic series
Emahlstadtman, i hope this is good. i mean, we don't have netflix, so i won't see it anyway, but i still hope its good.
Based on the DC comic book series by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is an epic saga that takes place in a mostly post-apocalyptic world where the existence of human and animal hybrid creatures is seemingly normal. Lemire’s limited book series ran from 2009 to 2013 with a total of 40 issues, so the fantasy drama has plenty…
Amazon renews Invincible for 2 more seasons
Emahlstadtgross. robert kirkman is a garbage writer. his comics are garbage, and the worst one of all of them is invincible, which is like what a comic book would be if we let 12 year-olds write comics for a living,
no one less deserving and with less talent has become so famous and rich for being horrible at what they do since anne hathaway.
makes me fucking sick.
fuck robert kirkman, and fuck invincible.
Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s Invincible was kind of a big swing, seeing as how it’s an adult-oriented adaptation of a well-loved comic book, done in the style of the sort of ‘90s superhero cartoons that nobody makes anymore and with a big-name cast, which pretty…
TIL Phil Collins has one of, if not the largest collection of Alamo artifacts. He started collecting artifacts in 1994, after getting a gift from his wife. In 2012 he published a book about the collection. He donated his collection to a new Texas museum in 2014, which debuted in public this year.
Emahlstadti learned this about phil collins a few years ago. what i still don't understand is WHY. this headline says because his wife gave him a gift. surely, his wife has given him any gifts, but they did not all turn into the world's largest collection of whatever that was.
WHY phil collins? WHY do you love the alamo so much!?!?!?

Texas falls to No. 14 in AP Poll
Emahlstadti should've know better than to let my hopes get up after the great start to the season. looks like we'll at least make the tourney (knock on wood), but sliding down fast.
The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team is once again trending down, most recently due to blowing what was a solid 19-point lead on Sunday to the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Disappointing indeed, after it seemed as though the Longhorns were trending up last week at No. 12, only to fall back to No. 14 in this week’s AP Poll, released earlier this morning.
Texas is now 13-6 overall, and sitting at 7-5 in Big 12 Conference play.
It’s perhaps needless to say that the season is spiraling into something of a head-scratcher.
Elsewhere in the Big 12, the Baylor Bears are sticking at No. 2 nationally, reliably behind the leading Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Oklahoma Sooners are trending up, now ranked No. 7. As are the West Virginia Mountaineers after their win over the Longhorns, at No. 10. The Kansas Jayhawks are also No. 17, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are just behind Kansas, at No. 18.
Texas take on Kansas at home in the Frank Erwin Center on Tuesday.
