Discussion: Have You Ever Been Bullied or Picked On For Liking Ponies?

by Sethisto
Lrbever

Fucking Sonie

My Little Pony in general has always had a pretty big stigma associated with it.  I joke around all the time and say that the show would be twice as popular in the internet world if it was simply called ponies. While the 80's cartoon wasn't awful for it's time, it's still pretty heavily associated with pre-teen little girls.  Friendship is Magic has escaped this in the geek sphere, but outside of it we are still an enigma.

So, good fans of cartoon equines, how has pony treated you in the real world? Have you ever been picked on for liking ponies by your friends, relatives, or random people at school or work? Or do you hide it and make sure no one ever finds out?

Hit up the comments with your story! Maybe we can get a section going on how to seek help if it gets worst in the future.  My best advice would be to hit up that meetup map and make some local likeminded friends.

This one came out of a podcast I did yesterday with Lunar Echoes that should release in a few days, so thanks to them for the idea!

by Mary Jaksch
Lrbever

Got to read some of these.

Top ten blogs for writers 2015

We’re delighted to announce the winners of our 9th annual Top 10 Blogs for Writers Competition!

It’s exciting to see such an array of excellent blogs for writers.

Make sure you visit all the ten blogs to get to know the new top crop of writing blogs.

How were the winners selected?

  • Initial qualification: A site must have been nominated more than once by multiple individuals. If someone nominated more than one blog, only the first nomination was counted. Valid nominations needed to include the URL and give a reason why the nominated blog should be considered.
  • Contest criteria: In order to be considered, a blog needed to be a writing blog. In order to qualify, at least 50% of posts needed to be about writing and not about freelancing, business, publishing, promotion etc.
  • Blog-based analysis: Reader involvement: Average comment numbers per post account for 15% of the total score. Number of nominations account for 15% of the total score. Average number of shares on social media per post account for 15%. These three blog-based factors make up 45% of the final score.
  • Quality of posts: Educational, useful, engaging and discussion-creating posts were rated higher than self-promoting posts. The quality of posts accounts for 55% of the final score.

And the 10 winners are …

Daniel Ingram Teasing Pinkie Pie Mystery Song? What are Pinkie's Favorite Things?!

by Sethisto
Lrbever

OOooooo..... her JAM!

Parties? Friends? Cake? Pinkie Pie is a pony with many favorites, and if this tweet from Daniel Ingram is any indication, we need to figure out what all that includes! That caps locked THINGS makes me think there is a buried message in here though.  Can you figure it out fandom? Are you able to read between the lines where we have failed to?

With just a few months remaining until we hit Spring and new pony episodes, I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of interesting things arrive soon.

Neil deGrasse Tyson Just Got His Own Late Night Talk Show

by Hemant Mehta
Lrbever

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The man you love to watch, whether he’s hosting Cosmos or appearing as a guest on Comedy Central, just got his own late night talk show.

Neil deGrasse Tyson will premiere Star Talk (based on his podcast of the same name) on the National Geographic Channel beginning this April:

“Cosmos allowed us to share the awesome power of the universe with a global audience in ways that we never thought possible,” said Tyson. “To be able to continue to spread wonder and excitement through Star Talk, which is a true passion project for me, is beyond exciting. And National Geographic Channel is the perfect home as we continue to explore the universe.”

Star Talk will indeed follow a similar format to Tyson’s podcast, which marries science and popular culture and feature interviews with celebrities, comedians and scientists. He’s still sorting through all of the elements that he’ll add to the television iteration, but he does intend to give Bill Nye a platform for a minute-long rant in each show, much as Andy Rooney had for many years on CBS’ 60 Minutes.

It sounds like a perfect venue for him — a chance to show off his charisma and have a public conversation with intelligent guests mixed in with the occasional celebrity (hopefully a reverse of the mix you tend to see on late night shows).

And it’s worth mentioning that he’s not the typical late night host: A white guy who comes from the comedy world.

If nothing else, I hope they give him plenty of freedom and let him run wild. I would watch that in a heartbeat. Coupled with a possible second season of Cosmos, it’s gonna be a great year for him.

Can’t wait to hear Ken Ham complain about how this is somehow Christian persecution.
