December 12th, 2013: Continuing my series of "things I have done this year that have ended up on a best-of list which works out nicely since Christmas is coming up and maybe you want to buy them for someone now that you have THIRD-PARTY CONFIRMATION that they are at the very least pretty okay": the Adventure Time comic is on Comics Alliance's Best Comic Books of 2013 list! The write-up about it actually contains a super sweet compliment: The purest compliment I can give the book is that I -- for the first time in a lifetime reading licensed comics -- remembered its two-part storyline spanning issues #13 and #14 as an episode of the cartoon. At one point I wanted to "rewatch" it and I scanned my episodes for a solid half hour in an attempt to see Finn, Jake and Marceline escape a virtual world ruled by the digital consciousness of a lost soul from the pre-apocalypse, only to remember that it happened in the pages of the comic. George Takei, in case you don't know, played Hikaru Sulu on the original Star Trek series. Nowadays, he is a relentless tweeter of internet memes. But he's also a top-1000 reviewer at Amazon, where he writes humorous reviews of some of retail giant's most unusual products. Like an inflatable human hamster ball:

When Brad asked what I wanted for my birthday, I said "jet pack," just like I have for the past four years. Now, Brad thinks I'm too far into my "Golden Years" to strap on any kind of propulsion unit, so each year his gifts have been disappointing: A bow-tie. A snuggie. Gel insoles.

Imagine my delight when I came home to the ZORB HUMAN HAMSTER BALL in our back yard. "Not as good a jet pack," Brad noted, shrugging. "But safer."

Brad was a bit winded after blowing it up for six hours (I recommend an air pump), so we left it inflated. We strapped it to our car roof using the 120 left-over bungee cords from our home bungee jumping kit (I would NOT recommend this product). We then drove up to the Hollywood Hills sign for a test roll.

Brad and I figured it would be poetic justice to tuck one of these babies, along with a DVD of hard core gay porn, inside a gift basket sent to our favorite Iranian madman, ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, during his last rant-filled visit to the UN. Just a small token of our esteem and thanks, you understand, for torturing and hanging those two gay teens.

And my personal favorite Amazon item, the 55-gallon drum of lube:

Brad and I will be Grand Marshals at this year's San Diego Pride Parade, and we were looking for just the right touch to add a bit of pizazz to our appearance. So when we stumbled across the PASSION NATURAL WATER BASED LUBRICANT - 55 GALLON drum, we felt we'd struck gold: "Just enough volume to soak an entire parade of spectators, and yet fits easily in our float." Double win.

Newt Gingrich has actually reviewed many more items on Amazon, but his are a lot less fun.

The Google Wallet card was referenced in the Google Wallet APK a long time ago, getting us excited that Google has been working on a physical card that encapsulates all our cards through the Google Wallet account and app. We hadn’t heard anything for so long, we kind of forgot about it. But it’s finally back, and it’s available to order straight from Google!

The card can be used anywhere, just like a standard card can, without the need for NFC. It will automatically draw money from your Google Wallet balance, though it is unclear whether it will be able to draw money from the cards stored in your Wallet account. According to the earlier reference, you can select the card it will automatically use in the Wallet app, and we hope that is the case now. A card limited to your Wallet balance is not all that useful.

As someone who now uses Isis because Google Wallet doesn’t work on my AT&T phone, it’s exciting to see Google push an all-in-one card, especially a free one. I ordered one, and I suggest you do too. Keep in mind that it’s most likely US only, though. Hit the source link to go to the Wallet website, and on the left, hit “Wallet app and card.” There, you will be able to order one after verifying your identity, if you haven’t already. It should arrive in 10-12 days, then you can activate it! Are you guys as excited as I am to give it a try?

In Latin we don’t say “I love you,” we say “Pedicabo ego vos” which means “You are the image of my heart.”

I just think this is really beautiful.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there are so many things wrong with this sentence.

First of all, in Latin, they said “I love you” plenty. The phrase was “Te amo.”

Second of all, “we” don’t say much of anything in Latin anymore, since it’s a dead language.

Finally, and most importantly, the proper translation of “Pedicabo ego vos" is actually "Fuck you."

Disney princesses have been video game characters, historical figures, and everything else in between. Why not warriors? Artist Sadyna has created illustrations that turn the familiar characters into capable warriors. She’s reinterpreted Pocahontas, Snow White, Ariel, and Sleeping Beauty. Chrome has a lot of fascinating features you'll probably never use. Tony Hirst spotted one: open a new tab, type chrome://predictors in the omnibox and press Enter. This page shows some cool stats about the characters you've typed in the omnibox and the URLs you've selected.

For example, if you usually type "y", Chrome autocompletes the URL to youtube.com and you press Enter, you'll find this association in the table. There are also 3 values: hit count (how often you type those characters), miss count (how often you pick a different suggestion) and confidence score = hit_count/(hit_count+miss_count). Check "Filter zero confidences" to remove entries with a 0 confidence score. Green entries have a 1 confidence score, which means that the text is always associated with the URL.

You can find all the internal Chrome pages by going to chrome://chrome-urls/. For example, chrome://view-http-cache/ shows a list of all the URLs requested by the browser, chrome://plugins/ lets you see the plug-ins that are available in Chrome, chrome://components/ shows a list of components like Pepper Flash and Portable Native Client, which can be independently updated, chrome://flags/ shows a list of experimental features you can enable, while chrome://net-internals/ is a very advanced network logging and diagnostic tool.

Hey geeks! I'm curating some of my favorite comics over at Buzzfeed.

Your body clock alarm is just as accurate as the one on your phone: your body naturally takes note of what time you want to wake up and wakes you up.

There's evidence you can will yourself to wake on time, too. Sleep scientists at Germany's University of Lubeck asked 15 volunteers to sleep in their lab for three nights. One night, the group was told they'd be woken at 6 a.m., while on other nights the group was told they'd be woken at 9 a.m..

But the researchers lied-they woke the volunteers at 6 a.m anyway. And the results were startling. The days when sleepers were told they'd wake up early, their stress hormones increased at 4:30 a.m., as if they were anticipating an early morning. When the sleepers were told they'd wake up at 9 a.m., their stress hormones didn't increase -- and they woke up groggier. "Our bodies, in other words, note the time we hope to begin our day and gradually prepare us for consciousness," writes Jeff Howe at Psychology Today.

Think back all the way to the year 2012. It was the spring and summer of archery thanks to characters such as Katniss Everdeen, Hawkeye, and Merida. The Avengers and Brave were released within a month or so of each other, and it inspired artist Brianna Garcia to draw Merida in Hawkeye’s costume. That in turn inspired this amazing cosplay by Lisa Marie. She looks awesome in the double duty archer costume, and she’d only have to add a mockingjay pin to add a little Katniss to the look.
