Rough sketches turned into functional scribbly furniture

This couch by Fukawa Daigo looks more like a drawing than an actual piece of furniture, but it can actually hold a person's weight. It's part of a series of furniture made to look like scribbles in a notebook.

Video: A.V. Undercover 2013: The Melvins cover Butthole Surfers

The ice cream-related attack you're about to witness—or maybe just witnessed—was not planned in advance, though I realize it looks perfectly staged. Yes, we had legendary noise-rock band The Melvins out in Chicago's beautiful Humboldt Park, and yes, we had the spankin' new Jeni's ice cream truck set up as the backdrop. But the audience, and Buzz Osborne's unleashing of the word "free"—that was just the beautiful hand of fate. The song they covered seemed perfectly inappropriate for the occasion: It's "Graveyard" by Butthole Surfers, and that's Surfers bassist Jeff Pinkus ...

Is this the profanity-filled future of Doctor Who?

by Rob Bricken

Until he was cast as the new Doctor this past weekend, Peter Capaldi was best known as the insanely profane Malcolm Tucker on the BBC's dark political comedy The Thick of It. It only took a day from someone to add the character's inspired obscenities to a Doctor Who trailer — and the results are gloriously NSFW.

The Game of Thrones cast has an ‘80s theme party in this awesome art

by Rob Bricken

The Game of Thrones cast has an ‘80s theme party in this awesome art

What if John Hughes directed Game of Thrones? Well, it probably wouldn't look anything like this, because it would still be set in the medieval fantasy realm of Westeros, but artist Mike Wrobel has painted much of the GoT cast in '80s and early '90s fashions, and they're just phenomenally brilliant. Take a look!

The Game of Thrones '80s/90s theme party continues in this awesome art

Winter is coming, and so are stone-washed jeans and slap bracelets. Artist Mike Wrobel has imagined more Game of Thrones' characters in the fashions of the late '80s and early '90s, and there just as radical as the first batch, which you can check out here.

These Illustrated Movie Cars Are Absolutely Perfect

These Illustrated Movie Cars Are Absolutely Perfect

It's rare that I see a piece of art and a piece of me just wants to absolutely lunge for it, but this is one of those times. Exactingly created by artist Scott Park and replicating cars ranging from everything from the Dukes of Hazzard to The Fifth Element, each car is a perfect bit of art in its own right.

Epic Blood Angels Space Marine Costume [Video]

by Geeks are Sexy

From Youtuber Pilerud:

I scratch built this Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Blood Angel Tactical Sergeant, 7th company, 9th squad, costume as a fan. About 400 hours in making, spread over 10 months. The current weight is 25 kg. Height: About 215 cm/7′ (I am about 183 cm/6′ without armor). (To be able to move around easier and be able to use my own hands, the size is a compromize between proper SM size and a normal human.) Method: Pepakura (foam+hot glue) and some modifications to make it look more like the miniatures. And some aluminum rods, and screws and electronics. Cost of materials: At the present about 2500€.

Video: A.V. Undercover 2013: Mac DeMarco covers Weezer

Mac DeMarco's second album—first if you only count Rock And Roll Nightclub as an EP—came out last year, and its messy-but-glorious songs were some of the best of 2012. The Canadian performer (and oh, he does perform) has professed an interest in Weezer in interviews, so we weren't too surprised that he and his band grabbed "Undone—The Sweater Song" and whipped it into something special. You can find DeMarco's own songs on the excellent 2. Enjoy.

Video: A.V. Undercover 2013: Basia Bulat covers Bruce Springsteen

This week we're taking a break from the regular Undercover list to offer up the ol' Seventh Inning Stretch—baseball-related cover songs, one by Houndmouth and this one by Basia Bulat. Perhaps you'll remember Bulat from the old Undercover room, where she covered Ted Leo's "Where Have All The Rude Boys Gone?" Here, she tackled Bruce Springsteen's classic "Glory Days" with the help of an instrument you don't see every day called the pianoette, a.k.a. hammered harp. Her voice and the sound of the harp bring a new dimension to what's really ...
