Dem Rep. Admits to TheBlaze She Wants National Gun Registry: ‘It Helps Us Find Them For You’

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Admits She Supports National Gun Registry

Joining protestors outside the National Rifle Association’s annual conference in Houston on Saturday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) told TheBlaze in an exclusive interview that she would support legislation that created a national registry of firearms.

“Registering your guns, people think that’s something sinister. But it helps you [to protect] your guns when they’re stolen. It helps us find them for you, like registering your car,” Lee told TheBlaze.

When asked specifically if she would support legislation that called for a national gun registry, Lee said confidently, “I would.”

“But at this point in time, it should be clear that the universal background check bill didn’t have anything in it about registration and I would have voted for that,” she added. “I believe in a hand of friendship and compromise.”

She went on to call for universal background checks, a ban on so-called “assault weapons,” high-capacity magazines and ending gun trafficking. “I don’t believe that we are shredding the Constitution simply because we ask for a regulatory scheme to be able answer the questions of these moms: ‘Is my child going to be protected?’,” Lee added.

Lee also rattled off a set of prepared gun stats during the interview. She noted that gun “homicide is the leading cause of death” and the second leading cause of death among young people aged 16-24 among blacks.

The Texas congresswoman dismissed the notion that anyone actually wants to repeal the Second Amendment.

“Who’s going to repeal the Second Amendment? No one,” she told TheBlaze. “We have a right to bear arms. I will say that in historical context, the militia was organized when we did not have a standing Army. So citizens needed to arm themselves.”

Lee said she just wants “common sense” gun control measures, adding that universal background checks would be a good first step to decrease gun violence.

Biden Warns of Using AR-15s for Home Defense in Odd MSNBC Appearance: ‘It Can Kill Your Kid in the Bedroom’

by Billy Hallowell
Joe Biden Bashes the NRA and Gun Control Opponents on MSNBC, Warns of AR 15 | Gun Control

Vice President Joe Biden, known for making some controversial statements about guns in the past, appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” where he, once again, hit back at those who oppose the Obama administration’s gun control measures.

Taking part in a round-table, Biden decried Second Amendment enthusiasts who, in his view, are spreading “disinformation” and “paranoia.”

Naturally, the NRA was among those the politician spoke out against. He even went as far as to claim that some gun owners simply enjoy owning weapons merely because they like how a firearm “feels” in their hands (he likened it to “driving a Ferrari” for these enthusiasts), Mediaite reports.

“This is one of the cases where the public is so far ahead of the elected officials, I mean so far ahead,” the vice-president proclaimed. “You saw it in immigration, you saw it in marriage issues, you’re seeing it now. The public has moved to a different place.”

Biden went on to claim that there are certain weapons and bullets that can legally be restricted and he dismissed fears coming from many Americans who believe that the administration’s policies overstep constitutional bounds.

“There is a paranoia out there,” the politician said. “The facts are, there’s not a single solitary thing that we have proposed…this argument that there’s absolutely any constitutional violation is absolutely not there.”

Of course, Biden’s comments about gun owners who simply “like the feel of that AR-15″ will likely draw the most ire from some.

“There is a whole new sort of group of individuals now…that never hunt at all. But they own guns for one of two reasons — self-protection, or they just like the feel of that AR-15 at the range,” he said. “They like the way it feels. It’s like driving a Ferrari, you know.”

Watch the segment, below:

Biden also made some other comments about AR-15s, particularly noting how dangerous he believes they are. CNS News explains:

Responding to critics who ridicule his insistence that shotguns are the best home defense weapon Vice President Joe Biden warned MSNBC’s Morning Joe of what he perceived as the dangers of using an AR-15 for home defense.

The Vice President’s concerns focused mostly on the idea that a round fired from an AR-15 may penetrate through a wall and hit a child in their bedroom. He insisted that would not happened using a shotgun.

“You know, they make fun of my saying about use a shotgun if someone’s invading your home – guess what, use a shotgun on someone invading your home and you don’t kill your kids – use an AR-15, it goes through your wall and it can kill your kid in the bedroom” Biden said.

Biden made no mention of self-defense ammunition designed for the AR-15 in order to prevent wall penetration.

See this comment, below:

Also, there’s the portion of the interview during which Biden commends host Joe Scarborough and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg for their comments and actions concerning gun control.

“You have changed the debate in America,” Biden told Scarborough. “The two guys who deserve an award, if anything gets done around here, is you and Michael Bloomberg.”

And here’s a longer portion of Biden’s MSNBC appearance:

Fox Exec Backs Threat to Kill Signal, Says Affiliates ‘On Board’

by Becket Adams
Russ Terrell

Looks like I may lose the ability to watch anything "of substance" on Fox if this goes through.

LAS VEGAS (TheBlaze/AP) — Television stations that relay Fox programming are “on board” with a threat to transition the over-the-air network to cable and satellite TV if Internet startup Aereo keeps reselling Fox’s signal without paying for rights, the chairman of a Fox group said Tuesday.

Fox’s parent company, News Corp., owns just 27 of the 205 stations that carry Fox shows such as “The Simpsons” and “Fringe.” The rest are affiliates that are independently owned or are part of chains of station owners. Steve Pruett, the chairman of the Fox affiliate board of governors, spoke about the stations’ support in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday at the annual gathering of broadcasters, the NAB Show.

Chase Carey, the chief operating officer of News Corp., raised the threat Monday amid a legal battle with Aereo. Carey said that if courts can’t stop Aereo from taking its signals for free and reselling them to customers, the company would have to make Fox a subscription-only network.

Haim Saban, chairman of the Spanish-language Univision network, echoed Carey’s sentiment.

“To serve our community, we need to protect our product and revenue streams, and therefore we too are considering all of our options — including converting to pay TV,” Saban said in a statement.

Pruett said that Fox TV stations could send out two signals — one to cable and satellite providers and another out over the free airwaves. Premium Fox programs could be reserved for paying customers, while the free-to-air broadcasts could be of lesser quality. Pruett said it was too early to go into details.

“We are completely on board with Chase’s statement,” Pruett said. “We are joined at the hip, so to speak.”

Currently, anyone with an antenna can pick up a TV station’s signals for free. But cable and satellite companies typically pay stations and networks for the right to distribute their programming to subscribers. Industrywide, those retransmission fees added up to $3 billion last year and are expected to double by 2018, according to research firm SNL Kagan.

Last week, that business was shaken after the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York issued a preliminary ruling siding with Aereo, which contends that it doesn’t have to pay those fees because it relies on thousands of tiny antennas personalized to each customer. It argues its service, starting at $8 a month, is similar to individuals using their own antennas and digital video recorders.

In a separate case, broadcasters are suing a different Internet company called Aereokiller LLC. It also takes broadcast signals using mini antennas and transmits them to paying customers. That case is now before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. Broadcasters hope that a different ruling there will result in the U.S. Supreme Court taking over the matter.

Father Reportedly Locked Out of Daughter’s Swim Practice to Accommodate Muslim Sensibilities

Muslims are stupid...STYOOOPID!

Toronto Dad Cant Watch Daughters Swim Practice for Religious Reasons, He Says

Subject not pictured. (Photo: Shutterstock/Kletr)

A  Toronto area father is upset after being locked out of his daughter’s swim class for what he was told are “religious reasons,” according to the Toronto Sun.

“I spoke to a staff member and she told me that it’s because of Muslim women, that we’re not allowed to look at them or whatever,” 38-year-old Chris said Friday (he declined to give a last name). “I don’t think religion has a role to play in a public pool.”

The single father knew when he signed his daughter up for the 9-week course at the community center that it was a female class, but didn’t realize the gender segregation also reached the stands, apparently.

“She doesn’t have a lot of friends and I wanted her to swim with girls.  I don’t know what parent wouldn’t want to watch their child participate,” he said, adding: “There were other fathers there who weren’t too happy.”

The Toronto Sun reached out to Local Councillor John Parker, who hadn’t heard of this specific case but called the complaint “legitimate,” adding that it raises a “fair issue.”

“We have to decide and we have to determine just what are the options that are available to us and how many hours are there in the day to allow the different options that communities want,” Parker said. “So far the pressure has been to provide hours for women only, this gives rise to the legitimate question: ought we to find time for mixed groups precisely to accommodate the concern that this parent has raised.”

City aquatics manager Anne Jackson seemed to stand by the rule.

“Without a female-only program, there would be women that wouldn’t be able to participate in swimming,” she said. “This is the way it needs to be in order to accommodate the programs. We’re not opening the door to one cultural group only — this is all females we’re accommodating.”

According to the Toronto Sun, there are mixed boys and girls classes where parents of both genders can sit in the stands, but they only run three days a week at the pool in question.

And it doesn’t seem like the public pool is going to change its policies any time soon, though they will try to make it more clear that “female only” swim classes don’t just pertain to the swimmers.

“I think that’s a fair criticism,” Jackson conceded.

Here We Go Again: White House Asks Banks To Make Loans To Borrowers With ‘Weaker Credit’

by Becket Adams
Russ Terrell

Is this a damn joke?

Obama Administration Pushes Banks to Extend Home Loans To People With Weak Credit

President Barack Obama. (Getty Images.)

The Obama administration is pushing banks to extend home loans to people with weaker credit, an initiative that the White House says will help fuel the recovery but critics say will lead to the type of conditions that caused the financial crash of 2008.

“President Obama’s economic advisers and outside experts say the nation’s much-celebrated housing rebound is leaving too many people behind, including young people looking to buy their first homes and individuals with credit records weakened by the recession,” Zachary A. Goldfarb writes in the Washington Post.

The Obama White House explains that by taking advantage of taxpayer-backed programs that insure home loans from default, banks should be able to provide loans to a greater number of borrowers.

Cautious of the White House’s initiative, banks have secured assurances from housing officials that they won’t be held responsible for government approved borrowers who default on their loans.

“Officials are also encouraging lenders to use more subjective judgment in determining whether to offer a loan and are seeking to make it easier for people who owe more than their properties are worth to refinance at today’s low interest rates, among other steps,” the WaPo notes.

Question: How does one “use more subjective judgment” in approving a loan when the criteria for approval is set by a third party (i.e. the feds)? Also, doesn’t “subjective judgment” become a little clouded when the loan approval process involves potential legal ramifications?

Critics are understandably leery of the White House’s call for broader lending.

“If that were to come to pass, that would open the floodgates to highly excessive risk and would send us right back on the same path we were just trying to recover from,” Ed Pinto, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former top executive at mortgage giant Fannie Mae, tells the WaPo.

The Obama administration downplays these concerns, saying that it is only looking to speed up the approval process and “encourage safe lending to borrowers who have the financial wherewithal to pay,” as Goldfarb puts it.

“There’s always a tension that you have to take seriously between providing clarity and rules of the road and not giving any opportunity to restart the kind of irresponsible lending that we saw in the mid-2000s,” a senior administration, who spoke on the condition on anonymity, tells the WaPo.

From 2007-2012, new-home purchases have declined by 90 percent for borrowers with credit scores in the 620-680 range (decent scores), the report notes.

Administration officials argue that because borrowers in this range are being turned down for home loans, they are forced to rent, which means less construction and a slowdown in the housing industry – which means a slowed recovery.

“The FHA, in coordination with the White House, is working to develop new policies to make clear to banks that they will not lose their guarantees or face other legal action if loans that conform to the program’s standards later default,” the report notes.

“The effort requires sign-on by the Justice Department and the inspector general of Department of Housing and Urban Development,” it adds.

Exit Question: We’re conflicted. We can’t decide if this story should be filed under “You’re kidding me” or “What could possibly go wrong?”

N. Korea's likely 1st target pinpointed

by F. Michael Maloof
Russ Terrell

Wow, this guy actually thinks NK will launch an attack within days. If they actually are stupid enough to do anything, I believe North Korea's destruction is guaranteed, but not before NK totally destroys Seoul, South Korea and kills the millions that are there. This could be very very bad.

WASHINGTON – An expert on North Korea predicts the isolated Hermit Kingdom could stage “some kind” of attack or bombing within a few days on the Korean Peninsula amid heightened rhetoric about nuclear war.

Sung-Yoon Lee said the recent bluster is “unusual for [North Korea's] standards.”

North Korean threats could include wiping out an inhabited South Korean island, and it is “not mere rhetoric,” Lee told the open source Langley Intelligence Group Network, or Lignet, in an exclusive interview.

Lee is the Kim Koo Korea Foundation professor in Korean Studies and an assistant professor at Tufts University’s Fletcher School.

Lee said that the bellicose rhetoric from North Korea could be boxing in North Korea’s 28-year-old leader, Kim Jong-un, and that if he doesn’t act, he could lose face.

Other analysts believe Kim is attempting to prove to a skeptical military leadership that he can be tougher than his father, Kim Jong-il.

Consequently, Lee believes that North Korea will spark a military incident within the next couple of days.

He doesn’t believe the sending of U.S. B-2s during a joint U.S.-South Korean military exercise was the source of the new threats.

On the contrary, he believes the B-2 flights may dampen the North’s enthusiasm for engaging in further military provocations.

Meanwhile, North Korea continues to raise the specter of nuclear war, but this time on the Korean Peninsula, according to a statement by the Korean Central News Agency, or KCNA. The KCNA is the official mouthpiece of the North Korean leadership.

North Korean officials have another outlook on the B-2s. They see them as a basis for staging “nuclear war exercises striking simulated in-depth targets of the DPRK,” the KCNA statement said.

The DPRK, or Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is the formal name of North Korea. Over the past weekend, the U.S. dispatched F-22 stealth fighter jets to South Korea for military exercises that are to continue through the month.

The North Koreans pointed out that the U.S. deputy secretary of defense had flown to South Korea “to finally examine the preparations for a nuclear war against the DPRK and openly said that the U.S. military attaches top priority to the second Korean war, giving green light to a nuclear war.”

The North Koreans said the combined forces of South Korea and U.S. also want to target “the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK with the use of lethal striking means and methods of U.S. imperialist aggression forces and the south Korean puppet army.”

“All the developments clearly show that the U.S. and south Korean aggression moves to conquer the DPRK, the strategic vantage, are leading to an outbreak of a nuclear war,” the KCNA statement said.

“Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army Marshal Kim Jong-un at 0:30 Friday finally examined and ratified the plan for firepower strike of the KPA strategic rocket forces so that they may strike any time the U.S. mainland and its military bases in Hawaii, Guam and south Korea,” it said.

“It is the steadfast will of the DPRK to react to the U.S. nuclear blackmail with merciless nuclear attacks, and war of aggression with a total war of justice,” the KCNA statement added.

Lee believes the U.S. approach over the years to negotiations with North Korea has been based on wishful thinking.

He said that just because Kim has lived in Switzerland and received some of his education there doesn’t mean he will be more open to change and cooperation with the world. To the contrary, “exposure to European cosmopolitanism is not a cure for totalitarian tendencies,” Lee said.

To underscore this view, Lee pointed to Cambodian dictator Pol Pot, who had spent four years in Paris during his 20s, but committed one of history’s greatest genocides against his own people.

He also referred to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who studied medicine in England, but “this has not stopped him from killing tens of thousands of his countrymen.”

Lee said that critical sanctions never should have been lifted during the administration of President George W. Bush, and North Korea should not have been removed from the U.S. state sponsors terror list.

He said while the U.S. needs to take North Korea seriously, Pyongyang actually has had the advantage, believing it has “tamed” not only the U.S., Japan and South Korea but some of its closest friends, Russia and China.

In pointing to North Korea’s vulnerabilities, Kim said the U.S. must exploit them by clamping down on its sources of revenue from illegal activities, including counterfeiting, drug trafficking and selling missile technology, and restoring sanctions suspended by the Bush administration.

Other sources have talked about an economic blockade on North Korea, but China has stated it would not support such an effort.

Lee sees some kind of North Korean attack over the next several days that may be limited in scope to back up its high-pitched rhetoric, believing the U.S. and South Korea will return to the bargaining table in the next few months with more “rewards.”

Lego to Pull ‘Anti-Islamic’ Star Wars Toy Set Following Muslim Furor

by Billy Hallowell
Russ Terrell

Little respect for LEGO's is now lost...It is Jabba's Palace...that's what it frakkin' looks like!

As TheBlaze reported back in January, Austrian Muslims became outraged when they saw that Lego, a popular children’s toy company, created something they viewed as anti-Islamic in nature. Following months of intense angst and debate, Lego has reportedly agreed to stop making one of its Star Wars toy sets in an effort to temper the storm.

Called “Jabba’s Palace,” the set features a giant alien who resides in a building that, according to critics, resembles a mosque. The scenario was first put on sale in 2012 as part of Lego’s Star Wars collection, but it wasn’t until this past January that the toy started to spark debate, The Independent reports.

Lego Agrees to Pull Anti Islamic Star Wars Toy Set After Muslims Protest | Jabbas Palace

The outlet explains the controversy in detail, highlighting the purportedly anti-Islamic nature of “Jabba’s Palace”:

The game, which is aimed at children aged from nine to 14, features Jabba the Hutt in his intergalactic lair. Jabba, the slug-like villain who first appeared in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, lives in a domed, oriental-looking building equipped with rockets and machine guns. He also smokes a water pipe and keeps Princess Leia in chains for use as his personal slave.

Furious Muslim critics complained that the Lego set’s Asian and oriental figures were “deceitful and criminal” characters such as gun-runners, slave masters and terrorists.

Melissa Gunes, a spokesperson for Austria’s Turkish Cultural Association (TCA), told The Independent that the toy doesn’t belong in kids’ bedrooms, as the palace that is depicted is said to look like the Hagia Sophia mosque, an Islamic house of worship in Istanbul.

“The game is pedagogical dynamite. It depicts Muslims as terrorists,” the cultural association added.

Lego Agrees to Pull Anti Islamic Star Wars Toy Set After Muslims Protest | Jabbas Palace

Initially, Lego rebuffed attempts to have the toy pulled off shelves, arguing that the company had merely followed the Star Wars films in creating the scenario and that there was nothing sinister about it at all. But it seems that the company has now decided to cease production of the toy starting in 2014.

After Muslim officials met with Lego leaders, the decision to pull “Jabba’s Palace” was purportedly made. TCA is predictably happy with Lego’s decision.

While Lego hasn’t yet commented on the latest development in the controversy, the company previously said that the toy was not modeled after any actual buildings.

“The LEGO Star Wars product Jabba’s Palace does not reflect any actually existing buildings, people, or the mentioned mosque,” said LEGO spokeswoman Katharina Sasse. “We regret that the product has caused the members of the Turkish cultural community to come to a wrong interpretation, but point out that when designing the product only the fictional content of the Star Wars saga were referred to.”

The Awesome Adapter for Your 12-Gauge Shotgun That Turns It Into an ‘Ultimate Survival Rifle’

by Liz Klimas

In an extreme survival situation where the appropriate amount of ammunition for the type of firearm you’re carrying can’t necessarily be guaranteed, what would you do? Carry multiple types of firearms to increase your chances of coming across ammo you can use? You could do that, or you could have an adapter system that comes in a handy pouch that allows one 12-gauge shotgun to take 11 different types of ammunition.

The creator of Gear Up’s X Caliber Shotgun Gauge Adapter System, Tim Ralston, told TheBlaze it’s like carrying 11 guns in one.

“It’s my version of the ultimate survival rifle,” Ralston said, pointing out how useful an adapter system would be as ammunition might become harder to purchase or in a desperate situation.

The X Caliber adapter system was recently unveiled in late November 2012 and the first shipment of pre-orders is coming in now, Ralston said. Showing it off as a drawing at a show, Ralston said he got 300 pre-orders just from there.

“I said, ‘I don’t even know how much it costs yet’ and they said ‘I don’t care,’” Ralston recounted to us. “With this system, you can pick the right ammo for the right time.”

It is composed of eight adapters that allow the 12-gauge to shoot 11 different caliber rounds. The adapters are each 7-inches long and made from chromoly steel.

Watch Ralston’s reveal on the Gear Up YouTube channel:

The system itself costs $449.99, but as Ralston pointed out, a 12-gauge shotgun with which the system is fitted to work, can cost as little as a couple hundred dollars. All in all, the system plus shotgun would be more cost effective than purchasing several different types of guns.

Calibers of ammo that the X Caliber allows a singe-shot shotgun to fire are .22lr, 38 special, .357, 9mm, 45 acp, 45 lc, .410 shotgun, 12 ga. shotgun, .223, 7.62×39 and 308.

But what about accuracy? Ralston said the adapters have been tested for this. Although they might not be as on target as shooting with the actual firearm for which the ammo was designed, the adapters are rifled to increase accuracy.

Here are a couple videos showing you how they perform in field tests:

After the gun control debate truly came to a head with the mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., in December, stores have been reporting ammo shortages and even police departments have been having a hard time getting their hands on ammunition needed for the job.

Ralston said he envisions ammunition being treated as currency in a bartering system in the near future. In fact, he told us that he recently had an exchange where he himself was paid with 1,000 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

And Ralston believes the X Caliber system will only allow people to easily adjust to situations where they might want to barter for any type of ammunition.

“The key to survival is the ability to adapt,” one of the X Caliber promotional flyers reads.

But Gear Up isn’t stopping with X Caliber when it comes to creating an adaptable firearm. Although still in the works and patent pending, Ralston teased a new firearm, which he believes will be ready for showcasing at the 2014 Shot Show, that he said will “set the gun world on fire.”

“We’re keeping an eye on what’s coming down as for regulations and already adapting,” Ralston said. “We’re going to be proactive instead of reactive.”

And that’s about all he would reveal to us on that front.

Toddler killed by 7 dogs in backyard

“All the dogs had access to the house, nine dogs in all,” Smith said. “She habitually played with dogs, all of them. But they drug her all over the yard. Something turned them on her. We don’t know what.”

Interesting how we never hear about packs of beagles killing anybody.

(SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS) Tragedy struck in north Bryan County on Wednesday afternoon when a toddler was mauled and killed by seven dogs, all pit bulls or pit bull mixes, in her backyard off Elm Road.

According to Bryan County Deputy Sheriff James Beatty, a 6:24 p.m. call to 911 reported the girl’s grandmother woke up, looked out the back window, saw it happening, and along with others rushed outside to pull the dogs off the child, but it was too late.

“When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do,” Beatty said.

GOP could hold House, Senate, presidency by 2016

by -NO AUTHOR-

I'd like to think Obamacare is gone if this happens. But as I've mentioned before, it scares me to think what is possible if the Dems get total control again. I can't believe they didn't do more damage when they had the control they did have. Hopefully that proves they only talk big when they know it won't actually happen.

(DAILY CALLER) — As bleak as things look for the GOP in the short-term and they do look bleak, it’s stunning to consider the entirely possible scenario whereby Republicans could control the presidency and both houses of Congress in the very near future.

Consider this: As Romney learned, history says it’s difficult to defeat a sitting president in the modern era. But it is arguably even harder for a political party to win three consecutive presidential elections.

Only George H.W. Bush who was essentially awarded Reagan’s third term has pulled it off in the last fifty, or so, years. And that’s just what Democrats will attempt to do. What is more, in all likelihood, they will nominate Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden.
