Design your dream phone

by Dennis Jensen !fpXAASGpVs

pour la photo

Guys...

Imagine you could take the S6 motherboard and basically add on to it.

Then use a 3D printer to print whatever housing you want for it.

If I had a dreamphone, it would be like this.

>Dual 3D lenses front and back. The back has 3 lenses (one set for horizontal 3D and one for vertical 3D).
>4K video resolution front and back at 220hz
>25 megapixel or whatever the highest standard of today is
>the fastest mulitcore cpu on the market
>Dual nano SIM slots so that I can get data from one carrier and minutes from another
>Dual micro SD slots
>Dual USB-C ports (yes 2 usb ports)
>A fingerprint reader that turns your fingerprint into a numerical equivalent that allows you to use the password as an encryption for the entire device and SD cards. (right now I can only set my phone's password to encrypt the SD card and phone, which doesn't allow me to take advantage of the fingerprint reader)
>The entire back of the phone made of solar panel and the front non-screen area also made of solar panel
>IR blaster tv remote
>garage remote software
>AM FM tuner
>VHF and UHF tuner
>Satellite capability
>IR blaster for nightvision on both sides of the phone.
>Heart rate sensor.
>LED light on front and back for selfies.
>Speakers on top and bottom of the phone for stereo sound while playing games.
>5 microphones for surround sound recordings.

Some other features if the technology allows it and if 3D printers allow you to print other housings:
>Projector technology
>Projected keyboard
>Kickstand that folds out.
>Being able to program your wireless car key into the phone. (I have a Prius with wireless key)

Anyone got any other ideas to add to the dreamphone?

The scene of the incident.

From QQ:

Mother Throws Two Children into Traffic after Fight, Infant Run Over and Killed

City Express: “Seeing this, I was trembling all over. How can there be a mother like this?!!” — This incident happened yesterday [April 29] evening on a road in Cixi [in Ningbo, Zhejiang province]. It was no common traffic accident, and it’s said the child was tossed into traffic by its own mother before it was run over by a truck. Eye witnesses say this mother threw her two children into traffic after having a fight with her husband, with the smaller one (only 8 months old) ultimately being run over, unable to be saved.

WARNING: Images below may be disturbing to certain viewers. Discretion advised.

From QQ:

Baby Girl Tossed into Traffic and Run Over Follow-up: Parents Wanted a Divorce with Neither Side Wanting the Children

[...]

Yesterday [April 30] morning, this reporter confirmed this incident from the Cixi Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Yesterday [April 30] afternoon, Cixi police reported this incident via their official Weibo account:

2014 April 29, an incident in which a baby girl tossed into the middle of the road was run over and killed by traffic happened on the Longshan section of National Highway 329. The police swiftly dispatched personnel to the scene to conduct investigations and interviews, where it has been preliminarily determined that on that day at 6pm, Hu (female, born 1975, from Jiangsu Donghai) threw her daughter (born in 2013 February) into the middle of the road on the Longshan section of National Highway 329, causing her to be run over and killed by a passing container truck.

At this moment, the suspect Hu has already been taken into criminal detention by the police. The case is under further investigation. Meanwhile, the police will give Hu a judicial psychiatric evaluation.

The scene of the incident.

The witness

“I climbed over the railing to the national highway hoping to stop [the woman].”

“[But] the baby had already been thrown under the truck”

The incident took place on National Highway 329, near the bus stop in Cixi City Longshan Town Ximenwai Village. On the evening the day before yesterday [April 29], despite the efforts of passing motorists to dodge [the child thrown into traffic], this horrifying fatal incident nevertheless happened.

[...]

“How can something like this happen? Just as I had gotten out of my car and climbed over the national highway railing hoping to stop that woman, at the same moment, the little baby had already been tossed under the wheels of the truck by her.” Recalling the scene, Mr. Yu still couldn’t believe what happened.

The scene of the incident.

The investigation

She has 3 children and are in the middle of a divorce

When arguing with her husband, neither want the children

[...]

“This woman isn’t a local, and it’s said she’s lives in Ximenwai Village for the moment, has three children. It sounds like it was because was fighting with her husband, and both said they don’t want [custody of] the children. According to the security guards at the police station, she even went to the police station that afternoon seeking mediation.” While this reporter was conducting interviews along the stretch of road where the incident occurred, quite a few people were commenting as such.

Yesterday [April 30] afternoon, this reporter confirmed this woman’s basic information from the administrator of the temporary residents of Ximenwai Village: the woman is surnamed Hu, is from Jiangsu Donghai, born in 1975, is a temporary resident living in Ximenwai Village with her husband and children.

[...]

“There seems to be something wrong with the woman’s head. She has already lived here for over 10 years, and has probably moved 3 to 4 times, with the last time because she she was always taking [stealing] her neighbor’s things, had been evicted by her landlord, and thus moved here,” described nearby neighbors.

“I heard that the couple has been fighting over the past few days, clamoring for divorce, with neither side wanting custody of the children. But doing to the children is too cruel. Even if she doesn’t want the children, she could still give them to other people. There’s always a way. As a mother, how can she do something like this? Even going onto the road to throw her children into traffic. Isn’t she also dragging the driver down with her?” sighed [neighbor] Aunt Li [from across the river], full of bewilderment.

From Sina Weibo:

南方都市报: Woman Tosses Her Daughter 3 Times, Causing Her to be Run over and Killed — April 29, on a road in Zhejiang Cixi, a woman threw her 14-month-old daughter into traffic three times. The first two times, cars managed to dodge [the child], but on the third time, the woman waited until the container truck was halfway past her before she threw the baby girl under it, where she was run over and killed. The driver got out and fell to his knees, as passersby rushed to grab the other 6-year-old boy. The driver wouldn’t stop crying while being interviewed.

Comments from QQ:

呱呱宝贝:

The husband is to take most of the blame, as a woman has already sacrificed a lot just having the kids. One woman raising two kids. One can easily imagine the pressure [stress, burden], and yet the husband still provoked his wife. That’s not right. A person enraged will lose control, which leads to serious consequences.

梦幻乜妹 /ka:

Depression results from trivial things in life. This mother must be suffering from post-partum depression, and perhaps only those who are mothers can understand her.

小月:

My God! How can there be such a mother~ My heart aches whenever my daughter cries. I simply cannot imagine [how she could do this]! Are those children her own or not?

月舞花下:

Women suffering from post-partum depression who don’t get timely help will surely make huge mistakes.

蓝鸟飞:

A man who got a woman pregnant without marrying her then leaves without a trace. When the helpless woman abandons the child, she is sent to jail, while the man remains free and unfettered. A man who got a woman pregnant lets her do all the work taking care of the child on her own he himself goes out having affairs with other women. When the woman develops post-partum depression and attempts to kill herself or her child, she is imprisoned, while the man remains free and unfettered, and even gets sympathy. So, girls, and women! When you decide to sleep with your boyfriend by his request, when you make up your mind to get married and have children with a man, you must think twice and choose your man carefully. Don’t ever think that because the children belong to the two of you, therefore, you are both responsible. In this natural world, whoever has the womb attached to her body is whoever shoulders the greater amount of responsibility. Stop bitching about equality between men and women, or sexual liberation. Think clearly before you pick a man to sleep with, or you’re the one who’s going to suffer!

不后悔:

I was there when it happened. And I was scared stupid. The older one was saved, but it was too late to save the smaller one. So cruel. Is she still human?

陈鹏飞:

I can only say… It’s not a human who threw the baby~ Poor child~ Rest in peace~

有缘:

This bitch has fully embodied the meaning of the saying: a woman’s heart is the most vicious kind!

☆尐伟の欣❤:

The driver isn’t going to be held responsible, is he? The driver himself was scared to death. Can’t believe this mother really did this! So heartless and crazy! She doesn’t deserve to be human! She’s worse than a beast, and should have been shot on the spot [executed]!

【桓】宝❤飞杨:

Please don’t publish this kind of news, I truly don’t want to see such things!!!

How to Compliment Chinese Women

by Yang Yang
Celestin

When you are talking with a Chinese lady, be very careful to avoid joking, sarcasm, and cheesy pickup lines.

WOKAY LES MEUFS

Chinese Women

The idea of talking to Chinese girls is quite intimidating for many Western guys.  The Chinese culture seems so different from Western culture; it can be easy to inadvertently offend a Chinese girl, even when attempting to compliment her.  Learning how to compliment a Chinese girl in a way that doesn’t offend her can be your first step in persuading her to let you take her on a date, or even starting a relationship.  Let’s talk about how to compliment a Chinese girl in the right way.

This Chinese dating site can give you ideas for ways to meet Asian women.

Some Things to Keep in Mind when Complimenting Chinese Girls

The first rule is one that is important when complimenting any girl, and that is to be specific.  Chinese girls will be blown away if, instead of simply telling her she’s beautiful, you tell her that her dress really brings out her eyes.  Find something small that can be used to make a broader compliment.

With Chinese girls, you can’t be afraid to exaggerate.  If you pay an understated compliment, such as “nice blouse”, it is likely to be brushed off as simple politeness.  Instead, tell her how beautiful her outfit is on her.  Be enthusiastic about your compliment and make sure she knows how much you admire her.

Be persistent.  Asian women are quite shy and will attempt to dismiss your compliment, usually by saying “哪里哪里” “nǎli nǎli”, which translates to “where, where?”  If you hear this, be sure to reiterate your compliment.

Complimenting Chinese Girls

Generally speaking, complimenting a Chinese girl on her personality or actions will mean more to her than a compliment about her appearance.  If she makes a joke, compliment her wit, but avoid telling her she’s funny, as it has negative connotations in the Chinese language and could be taken as an insult.  If she says something interesting, compliment her intelligence, and if she does something goofy, be sure to tell her she’s cute.  A compliment that many Chinese girls love to hear is,  “你很可爱!” “nǐ hěn kě ài" (you are so cute!).  Be sure to learn some other phrases to use as well, you don’t want to sound repetitive or insincere by using the same one too often.

Offering your compliment in Chinese will really impress the girl you are talking to.  If you really want to win her over, tell her you learned it just for her.  If you speak Chinese well, consider learning some 成语chéngyǔ (idiomatic phrases) to use to compliment her.  These can be quite powerful, but have very specific definitions and can be difficult to use properly.

Warning: Three Things to Avoid

When you are talking with a Chinese lady, be very careful to avoid joking, sarcasm, and cheesy pickup lines.  These are likely to earn you little more than a blank stare, especially if you are speaking English with her. These kinds of things will easily go wrong. Chinese women do not get used to using or hearing that kind of language and she usually will not understand your point.  Even if you are speaking Chinese, you are more likely to elicit hurt feelings than anything else.

Just like with Western girls, every Chinese girl is different and will respond differently, but you should get mostly positive responses.  Last thing, be confident and sincere.  She’ll be able to tell if you aren’t.  Try out what you’ve learned and good luck!

Look what just arrived in the mail– Blinky AVR Earrings!

Blinky AVR Earrings

Not long ago, Rick posted on twitter about the ATtiny84 blinky earrings he had made, inspired by my voltage regulator earrings (which I now fasten on with the appropriate phillips screw).

Four blue LEDs blink in sequence, powered by a CR1220 battery. The board is traditional OSHPark purple, with an ISP header for convenient reprogramming. They’re lighter than they look and quite comfortable.

Thank you, Rick! I know what I’ll be wearing to Maker Faire!

Would you trade your dad for spider man ?

For Mother's Day, Jimmy Kimmel sent a team outside the Jimmy Kimmel Live studio, to ask kids passing with their parents, who they love most, their mom or their dad.
According to a new survey, three out of four adult children would rather spend time with their mom than their dad. Jimmy is always suspicious of polls like this, so we decided to do our own. We went out on the street and asked kids in front of their parents which one they loved more.

Stylish Swimmers in Qingdao

Qingdao, China, north of Shanghai, is a city of over 2.7 million people. Every morning, local swimmers gather at Qingdao’s downtown beach. Philipp Engelhorn brought his camera to the beach every day for a week to document their stylish attire. The homemade “funky” outfits are colorful, patterned and mismatched, but they also serve a purpose. “They are protecting themselves from the sun (as they do not want to get suntan) and from jellyfish stings,” Engelhorn told PDN via email.

Engelhorn used natural light for the series, shooting each portrait between 5:45 am and 8:00 am. “I was trying to shoot this as consistently as possible, without a whole studio set. The Chinese are very shy in front of the camera, and I would have never gotten these relaxed postures and attitudes with a full studio set-up.”

Inspired by a photo of one of the swimmers in a Chinese newspaper, Engelhorn thought this project would be a good way to try something new. Much of the Hong Kong-based photographer’s work is reportage. “Personal projects always work the best, are the most fun, bring the best PR,” he notes. “Working on assignments and jobs for too long can really kill or destroy your creativity. I think it is very important to go out and do projects to find yourself in your own photography once in a while.”

The series recently won Engelhorn second place in the 2015 LensCulture Portrait Awards.

Massive Wood Joints With Chainsaw Mortiser

by Rich Bremer
Celestin

#canadien

mortise-tenonOne common joinery method used in wood working is the mortise and tenon. A mortise is basically a hole in a piece of wood and the tenon is another piece of wood cut to tightly fit in that hole. The tenon is usually secured in place with either glue or a wooden pin or wedge.

The folks over at [WayOutWest] were building a fence and needed a way to cut a bunch of mortises in 4×4 inch posts to accept 2×6 inch rails. Although they had a chainsaw, trying to cut a mortise with it by hand turned out to be super dangerous because the chainsaw would kick up every time the tip of the blade touched the wood. The team had some parts kicking around so they made a fixture to hold the chainsaw as it is plunged into the 4×4’s.

The contraption’s frame is made from an old scaffolding stand and the slides are just pipes inside of pipes. The chainsaw is bolted to the slide and a lever moves it forward and back. A second lever moves the piece of wood getting mortised up and down so that the mortise can be cut to any width. This is a pretty ingenious build that only cost a little effort and will end up saving a bunch of time mortising countless fence posts.
