Benoît Mandelbrot, Father of Fractals

Mathematician Benoît B. Mandelbrot would have turned 89 yesterday. He passed away in 2010, but just a few weeks before his death, Mandelbrot was interviewed by documentarian Errol Morris. Here's a short film featuring that interview, in which Mandelbrot explains his pioneering work with fractals (including his thought process for naming them), as well as his previous work. Enjoy:

My favorite line? "A formula can be very simple, and create a universe of bottomless complexity."
