Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ist aus der heutigen Sicht und mit dem Wissen aus Star Trek: Discovery zeitgleich Prequel sowie Spinoff. In der Serie werden die „Star Trek: Discovery-Season 2“-Fan-Favoriten Anson Mount als Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn als Nummer Eins und Ethan Peck als Wissenschaftsoffizier Spock zu sehen sein. Die Serie folgt dem Trio in dem Jahrzehnt, bevor Captain Kirk an Bord der U.S.S. Enterprise ging, während sie neue Welten rund um die Galaxie erkunden. Im Rahmen des Star-Trek-Day gabs dann auch neue Informationen zum Cast. Zu den neuen Darstellern gehören auch Christina Chong als La’an Noonien-Singh, Melissa Navia als Lieutenant Erica Ortegas und Bruce Horak als Hemmer. Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over the simultaneous streaming release of Black Widow, which debuted the same day in theaters and on Disney Plus through its Premier Access service.
The suit was filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court and alleges that Johansson’s contract with Marvel Entertainment, which is owned by Disney, ensured a “wide theatrical release” of the film. The suit says it’s “well understood” that the agreement meant an exclusive release that would not include streaming. You walk through the supermarket aisle until you face various choices for the product you wish to eat. In the case of cereals, it can be 20 or more different options. You reach out and pick one, which you feel is the right decision based on a well-educated process.
In fact, when you make that decision, you are executing on thousands of messages received during most of your entire lifetime—each one with the sole purpose of influencing that decision. In commerce, that purchasing act is called the second moment of truth. The moment when millions of dollars of marketing (at least for cereal companies) is converted into a purchase decision.

Traditionally, the two have been geographically and historically separated. You receive marketing messages at breakfast while reading your daily digest on your phone, and you will be buying in the late afternoon.
Ecommerce, for most of its brief existence, has followed the same schema. Advertising here, shopping there. But not anymore. Everything is converging to one all-encompassing moment of truth at one place and one time, with visual content at its core. The customer journey is now reduced to an instant and one visual.
There are three main steps in a customer journey:
The awareness of the product
The consideration of the product
The purchase of the product
Up to now, they all happened at different places and over time. Now, it’s all converging at one place and time and all within one visual content.
Nowhere can this be experienced more than on social media since we spent most of our time. All platform owe their success and operate with visual content as their core interface. Stage one was to use those visuals to capture audiences. Stage 2 two was to transform those views into advertising; stage three adds a “buy” button: Discovery, conversion, purchase, now all in one image or video.
Instagram displays an ad every 3 to 4 posts and uses retargeting profusely. Each ad contains multiple visuals introducing a product you have shown interest in and leading to a shop now button. That one image or video contains the whole customer journey.

The numbers confirm the story: 81% of people out of over 1 billion use Instagram every month to help research products and services. With an average conversion rate of 1.85 percent, that’s 14 million clicks on a “buy” button of an image every month.
Identical scenario for Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Snap. Photography has a new role, one much harder to master. It has to introduce, convince, and sell all within one frame. It has to capitalize on the instant attention span. With video, it’s an identical challenge, all within the maximum of 60 seconds granted by most social media platforms. For brands, the bar is making the brutal journey feel seamless, which is why they rely on influencers’ expertise. They have mastered converting content into captive audiences and come with built-in trust. All that is needed is the “buy” button.
The product now comes to you, fully packaged with all the information you might need to make a purchase decision, including the cash register. Everything is transformed into an impulse buy, one carefully vetted via retargeting by your shown interest. All compressed in one frame or 60-second video, right next to those party pix of last night shared by you BFF.
Shop and share. The lines are blurred. Your friends, brands, product, purchase, parties are all part of the same flow. Click Like here, click buy there; who is that at my front door? A delivery or a friend? The beginning and end of your buyer journey are all in here, in one frame.

Samsung may be getting closer to refreshing two popular midrange devices: the Galaxy A52 and A72. Leaked press renders and prices have popped up over the last month, and now SamMobile is reporting that the phones will get higher refresh rate screens. This is a welcome feature that’s trickling down from much pricier flagship devices; faster refresh rates make for a much slicker experience, with smoother animations and scrolling than the typical 60Hz screen offers.
The A52 and A72 are both expected to sell in LTE and 5G versions; the LTE phones will allegedly have 90Hz displays, while the 5G versions get 120Hz panels. (SamMobile only indicates that the A52 5G will have the 120Hz screen, but it seems likely the A72 5G would, too.) A 90Hz...

It's a rare TV series that gives me pause about even writing a review, but Amazon's new sci-fi thriller Utopia turned out to be just that. Not because it isn't good—on the contrary, I found it both entertaining and thought-provoking. But there are several key elements of the central plot that proved disquieting enough (even for someone like me who is not generally squeamish) that I had to ponder the pros and cons of giving space to a show whose release perhaps should have been postponed by a few months, given current world events. (I mean, read the room, Amazon! Geez!) In the end, the pro arguments won out.
(All major spoilers are below the second gallery. We'll give you a heads-up when we get there.)
As we reported previously, the series is a reboot of the 2013 British version, about online fans of a graphic novel called Dystopia that seems to have the power to predict the real-world future. The fans are obsessed with tracking down the sequel, Utopia, and this makes them targets of a secret organization. Amazon has kept the same basic premise (with a few tweaks) and swapped in an American cast. Per the official premise: "When the conspiracy in the elusive comic Utopia is real, a group of young fans come together to embark on a high-stakes twisted adventure to use what they uncover to save themselves, each other and ultimately humanity."

Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about how to keep my self-hosted photography website alive after I’m gone (no, I’m not dying anytime soon, though — hopefully). My website is where all my passions are combined into one (travel, photography, web design and development), and I treasure it like my child. I really want it to last beyond my time on this planet, but the problem is how.
My website is powered by WordPress and hosted by Bluehost (one of the biggest names in web hosting business), and in order to keep it alive, I as a webmaster need to continue paying and renewing its web hosting and domain name. If I failed to do so, the website will be permanently taken down by the host. It’s obviously a challenging task to get the hosting going when the webmaster (myself) is no longer around.
Avoiding “Digital Death”
The history of the Internet isn’t that long. It was only in the mid- to late-1990s that it began to be widely used. Then, WordPress (.org, the open-source Content Management System) was released in 2003, paving the way for blogging to be popular towards the late 2000s. So, even most of the early adopters of self-hosted blogs have been around for only 10 to 15 years, and I assume that the majority of them aren’t in their old age yet.
In not-so-distant future, though, this topic may become actively discussed because there will be webmasters and bloggers alike who want to leave their digital legacy by keeping their websites alive beyond their lifetimes. However, truth be told, most of those self-hosted websites won’t be able to avoid “digital death” unless it’s turned into a business and there are employees taking care of it.
Ask Your Child to Keep It Alive
Another possibility is asking your child or family member to look after it. I often ask my 8-year-old son to renew web hosting and domain name when I die (note: he doesn’t even know how a website is hosted), but he always jokingly says “No!”
Education starts at a young age! Kids these days are more tech-savvy than ever, but managing a self-hosted website requires some technical knowledge and experience.
That said, if my son is able to keep my website up for his entire life, it will have survived online for three-quarters of a century (I started my website when he was five), which is quite a feat. If he could convince his own child to keep my digital legacy, it’d cover longer than a century! But, for that to happen, I must keep good relationships with my son. If he doesn’t have any fond memories of me, there’s no chance that he cares about my website. Well, I won’t go into parenting tips, though!
If you’d like to go this route, make it easy for your child to maintain the website. You can consider the followings.
#1. Keep domain registration and web hosting together under the same company: I know this goes against the general practice of separating domain registration and hosting (e.g. domain registered with Hover, hosted with Bluehost) so that your domain can never be held hostage when you want to move away from the host. However, keeping both together is hassle-free for your child, as he or she doesn’t have to manage two separate accounts for renewal.
#2. Unsubscribe paid services: Apart from domain registration and web hosting (which are must), you may be paying recurring bills for other services like Gravity Forms. Unsubscribe all of them and replace with free alternatives where possible in order to reduce the running cost for your child.
#3. Teach your child how to manage your CMS (Content Management System): Your child should ideally “take over” your website, regularly updating the core files, and making sure that the website is up and running as it should be. I’m planning to teach my 8-year-old son WordPress in the upcoming years!
Wayback Machine an Answer?
I believe everyone has come across Wayback Machine, a digital archive of the Internet that allows us to access websites that no longer exist today. If you ran a website or blog in the past, search it by typing the URL. You’ll probably find your (partially-working) old site there.
Wayback Machine could be our answer, as this large nonprofit organization is highly likely to last for many years to come. That said, it’s hard to have a perfectly working website archived, as there is no easy way to save an entire website without missing pages and images.
Wayback Machine is a digital archive of the World Wide Web on the Internet. It comes quite handy when searching for websites that no longer exist today.
Instead of waiting for their crawler to come and archive our websites, we can voluntarily save pages using their browser extensions (install one for Chrome, Firefox, or Safari), but this can only be done page by page. So, if your website has 500 pages, you’ll need to visit 500 separate pages and save one URL at a time. Another downside is that your archived website won’t be publicly searchable on Google, and can only live in the confined world of Wayback Machine.
Here’s another thought. Like myself, there are people taking pride in their “self-hosted” websites and disregarding free blogging platforms like Google Blogger, Tumblr, and Weebly (free plan) as “unprofessional”. It’s true that a hosting a business website on a free platform is unprofessional, but for those of us doing as a hobby (myself included), a free platform should have a better chance of keeping our websites up longer, as the website remains hosted forever unless the services get discontinued.
In fact, the biggest advantage of free blogging platforms is that they run “autopilot”. We can call them “managed hosting” as opposed to self-hosted platforms like WordPress (.org) where you as a webmaster are responsible for updating core files, etc. all by yourself. With free blogging platforms, there is no need to ask your child to look after the running of the website.
Google Blogger is run by the Internet giant Google and should have a better chance of outliving our self-hosted websites.
Leaving Digital Legacy in the Form of Social Media
Posted contents on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Medium, etc. can also be your digital legacy. Some of the social networking platforms (whether currently-existing ones or those coming out in the future) are certain to outlive our self-hosted websites. That said, I don’t feel any emotional attachment to my contents on social media (I don’t even have accounts for the aforementioned three services), probably because those are posted on a place where I have little or no control. I won’t call an Instagram page “my website”.
Conclusion
Well, this is very much an under-discussed topic, and I have no idea what the general sentiment is like among webmasters and bloggers. For me personally, I really want my website to live much longer than me. If there were a web hosting company that lets me pay in advance for the next few hundred years of hosting, I’d definitely sign up. Having said that, even the biggest web hosting companies today may not be around 100 years from now, though…

Wie auf der Plattform Reddit berichtet wird, konnte ein neues Flag innerhalb von Google Chrome erspäht werden, mit welchem sich innerhalb der Windows-Version des Browsers die Unterstützung für Oculus Rift-Headsets und -Controller aktivieren lässt. Anscheinend ist das Feature derzeit auch wirklich nur auf die Hardware von Oculus ausgelegt, wie auch schon der Flag-Name „Oculus Hardware Support“ vermuten lässt. Ob dann später auch andere Geräte mit aufgenommen werden, ist derzeit noch unklar. Bisher ließ sich mit Chrome lediglich in Verbindung mit Googles Daydream View in der VR surfen und ein offizielles Statement zum Flag steht auch noch immer aus, dennoch scheint es sich hier nicht nur um ein kleines Test-Flag zu handeln, dass mal eben wieder entfernt werden könnte. Doch die Verbindung Browser/VR ist inzwischen ja auch nicht mehr reine Utopie und wird unter anderem auch von Mozilla enorm vorangetrieben. Da es sich bei der Rift um mein mittlerweile recht gängiges Headset-Format handelt, ist es nur konsequent, dieses in Zukunft zu unterstützen.
