Mini Remembers Its First Monte Carlo Rally Win 50 Years On

by noreply@blogger.com (Carscoop Carscoop)

Mini’s recent foray in the World Rally Championship was sadly a very short one, so the least the carmaker can do now is console itself with past triumphs. Of course, the recent Dakar wins are important, but by far its biggest rallying victory was the 1964 triumph in the Monte Carlo Rally with the legendary Paddy Hopkirk behind the wheel of the classic Mini rally car. #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER:Meet Mathieu Bonnevie

Stunning cars, beautiful pictures.

#IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER:
Meet Mathieu Bonnevie

As part of our regular programming, to coincide with the new purpose of #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER, we’re going to be highlighting key contributors and giving them the opportunity to talk about and share more of their photographs. This is an important part of #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER, as it’s one thing to create one good photograph, but another to produce a volume of quality work. It takes dedication, practice and the basic yearning to improve every time you pick up a camera. Mathieu was someone we spotted contributing to our Flickr group last year, and he consistently delivered with each submission. I’ll let him take over from here…

I’m Mathieu Bonnevie, I’m 23 and I live in France. In Reims to be more precise, where champagne is made you know.

Let’s start with the most important thing: cars. Because without cars there would be no photography for me. I’ve been a car enthusiast since I was born. Car genes have been in my family for a long time and they didn’t pass me by! My first model car and poster was of a Ferrari F40. I’ve always been fascinated by that car. Its design is even stronger today and it’s by far my all-time favourite car.

1-IMG_4399-1920

With photography, I’ve met a lot of people and a lot of cars, but I’m more and more attracted by classic cars generally – and especially Porsche 911s. This photo I took some weeks ago is a fair résumé of the 911s I love. We can’t see all of them but behind this 2.8 RSR, there’s another 2.8 RSR, a 2.7 RSR, an ST and a 2.4S. I would add a 930 Turbo to my collection though.

21-IMG_8177-1920

Photography first started with me a few years ago, first with a willingness to share the cars I saw. That was in 2009. Then I started to want to do more than just ‘taking photos of the cars I saw’. By exchanging conversations with amateur photographers on the internet and at car events, I learned a lot about settings, framing and about editing with Lightroom and Photoshop. I seriously started photography in 2011. Today it’s still not my job, but 2011 is when I started to attend as many car events as I could, to hunt cars in the streets and to get private photoshoots. I went to university to study and have a job that didn’t involve cars. But with photography, I think I’ve found the best way to get close to cars in my spare time.

Establishing a shortlist of my favorite images among my thousands and thousands of photos is always a hard thing, but here are the photos I have to share, because they define my photography and how I see cars.

2-IMG_7643-1920

I think this is my favourite photo ever. It’s the only one I’ve printed by the way. This is a replica of a Jaguar Type-C I found in Paris. The photo is very simple but I like it so much because this is how my perfect world would be: beautiful paved streets, empty of people, with classic cars parked here and there.

3-IMG_6323-1920

The Ferrari F40, of course. I’m very unlucky with this car – I’ve only seen a few of them. But every time I see one, I could spend hours watching it. I saw this one in Paris, at a classic car event.

4-IMG_2916-1920

I think this is the most incredible photoshoot I’ve conducted. I went to Carrozzeria Touring in Italy, where I took photos for the presentation of their second Disco Volante. And I met lots of fantastic people, especially the design team.

8-IMG_6357-1920

The diptychs! I started to use that kind of angle, framing and collage for a car parked in a street where there were too many people.

6-IMG_2981-1920

I liked it and repeated it on other cars. They’ve became a sort of signature and I’m now quite attached to them!

9-IMG_3013-1920

This photo inspired my logo. It was taken in a Ferrari F50. I’ve always liked old Ferraris’ grids and levers. I’m a defender of manual gearboxes and I wanted a reminder of my attachment to classic cars on my logo.

11-IMG_5798-1920

Through car photography, I’ve met a lot of incredible people: artisans, collectors, mechanics, restorers, etc.

14-IMG_0672-1920

Some of the amazing classic Porsches I’ve had photoshoots with:  Porsche 356 Speedster, Porsche 993 GT2 Klasen and this Porsche 356 D convertible.

17-IMG_6220-1920

Fortunately, it’s not been only Porsches. Two radically different cars I had for photoshoots were the Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. They have a common point though: power.

18-IMG_4794-1920

The Evo IX is quite a monster on track… Private photoshoots are always an awesome time: you can go for a ride to seek nice locations for the photos, sometimes you can drive them, and often owners become good friends.

19-IMG_4833-1920

Parisian streets (and parking lots sometimes) have offered me a huge opportunity to meet the rarest cars.

20-IMG_6385-1920

Among them: Pagani Huayra, Koenigsegg Agera R and the timeless Lamborghini Murcielago SV.

13-IMG_5601-1920

I hope you appreciated my photos guys. I would like to say a big thank you to Paddy, who allowed me to feature on one of my favorite car websites!

À bientôt.

SEAT confirm six event Eurocup series for 2014

by Neil Hudson

SEAT Sport have revived the Eurocup series for the 2014 season, using the new SEAT León Cup Racer, which was earlier this year expected to be developed into a full-fledged touring car for the new WTCC regulations.

The last Eurocup series, using the popular SEAT León Supercopa based on the Mk.II SEAT León, functioned as a support series to the WTCC and ended in 2010, with the last title won by Hungarian Gábor Wéber, who went on to race in the WTCC in 2012 with Zengo Motorsport.

The Eurocup functioned as a vital feeder series to the WTCC, with a number of drivers progressing into the FIA Championship including Pepe Oriola, Aleksei Dudukalo, Norbert Michelisz, Fredy Barth, James Nash and Tom Boardman.

The new two-litre turbocharged León Cup Racer, based on the Mk.III SEAT León 5-door hatchback, will be the model used for the new Eurocup series, which will be held over six events taking place in the Spanish brand’s core target area of Europe.

“Motorsport is deeply embedded in our brand. SEAT has more than 40 years of history here,” said Dr. Matthias Rabe, Vice President of SEAT S.A. for Research and Development. “With the SEAT León Eurocup, we offer an interesting opportunity for our motivated customer teams and our enthusiastic fans all over Europe…the León Cup Racer is an extremely high-performance race car. The new generation of the SEAT León provides an excellent basis for this, winning high praise from customers and motoring journalists alike.”

SEAT will confirm the race calender in the coming weeks. The weekend format will feature two practice sessions, a qualifying session and two races held over Friday to Sunday.

“With the SEAT León Eurocup, we are delighted to be able to offer our customer teams a great series for the 2014 season,” says Jaime Puig, Head of SEAT Sport. “The SEAT León Cup Racer is an excellent vehicle and will thrill our fans with some fascinating competition. The entire know-how of SEAT Sport has gone into the SEAT León Cup Racer. We are following on from the great sporting successes of years past.”

The León Cup Racer is powered by a two-litre, in-line four cylinder turbocharged engine with a maximum power output of 330 PS, with a pre VAT purchase price for the car set at an affordable pre-tax cost of 70,000 EUR.

SEAT’s plans to return to the WTCC in an official capacity for the first time since 2009 have been officially put on hiatus, as previously reported here. However, SEAT cars are still expected to run in an unsupported capacity on the WTCC grid in 2014, with the current Super 2000 specification SEAT León WTCC car eligible to compete in the new TC2 class.

Let Us All Unite

I recently came across a speech by the legendary Charlie Chaplin, from a movie, The Great Dictator (1940). I was completely overwhelmed by how powerful all of his words were. More amazed at how all of what he said still relates to our times now. I was then inspired to create a vintage styled poster based on this very speech.

Honda Teases Sweet Looking 2014 Civic WTCC Racer

by noreply@blogger.com (John @ Carscoop)

Hot on the heels of its announcement on the development of Civic Tourer for the 2014 season of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), Honda has released the first visual of the revised Civic hatchback with which it will compete in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Honda made changes to the car to reflect the all-new technical regulations for the FIA WTCC that will come into effect next season.

Besides the updated body work that includes different wheel arch extensions for the larger diameter wheels and extended rear spoiler, the 2014 Civic WTCC will also have more power under its hood, though, Honda has yet to release details. The previous Civic racer sported a 1.6-liter turbocharged-four.

For the 2014 WTCC season, two works cars will be run by JAS Motorsport for Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro, while further Civics will be entered by private teams Zengo Motorsport and Proteam Racing for Hungary’s Norbert Michelisz and Moroccan Mehdi Bennani respectively.
